First Time in Akumal

Postby ktstrickland on Sun Dec 30, 2007 1:05 pm

We are going to Bahia Principe Akumal for 7 days and I had a few questions that I can't seem to find direct answers to....

1. Are all the gift shops in walking distance?
2. What is the best way to get from the Airport in Cancun to the Resort and the cost?
3. Some people say you don't need to tip to get a good room and others say to tip if you want good service and room...
4. What currency should you bring with you...USD or PESO?

I hope someone can help me with these questions. I am a planner and all these tips would sure help.

1. Are all the gift shops in walking distance?
Yes walking distance, if you want a nice walk but there are also trams that take you from one resort to the next and to the shopping centre. I think they leave every 20 min. We never had to wait very long, most of the time we would just walk. There is no charge.

2. What is the best way to get from the Airport in Cancun to the Resort and the cost?
We had a tranfer from airport to resort booked with our flights and reservations and it was a bus that dropped people off to all resorts on the way. I think we booked with Transit something like that and so anyone that booked with them were dropped off on the way to ours, we were the last off because we were the furthest out.

3. Some people say you don't need to tip to get a good room and others say to tip if you want good service and room...
Tip, Tip, Tip... if you walk around the resort you could see who tips and who doesn't by their curtains. We tipped the maids every day and everyone else and we had amazing service. We were always greated with a smile. The maids don't speak very good english so they would just stare and smile. They found out I liked elephants and one day on our bed they made me an elephant out of towels. Every morning we would come back to the room and there would be some animal or a heart made out of towels and our curtains were always done up a different way each day. It made it really nice.

4. What currency should you bring with you...USD or PESO?
You should bring Peso... there is an ATM at the shopping centre if you need to get more and it spits our Peso as well. We never had any US money.
I hope someone can help me with these questions. I am a planner and all these tips would sure help.
