I'm not exactly sure as to the time, but about 20 yrs. ago it burned down and it is now replaced with the Radison and Crystal Palace Hotels. The Crystal Palace ruined the beach that was once so spectacular andnow is overrun with young college kids. Both hotels are all inclusive. I stayed at the Radisson 2 yrs. ago hoping to re experience the old Emerald Beach Hotel. Don't bother!!!

Re: The Emerald Beach Hotel AND The Queen Elizabeth Hotel

In 1966 the Emerald Beach Hotel was one of the main reasons many tourists visited the Bahamian Island of New Providence. It was steeped in the old school way of caring for its guests, from the ambience and service to the very appearance of the grounds leading out to a pristine beach and warm turquoise waters that would accomodate swimmers for hours with no chill factor. The hotel spared no expense to make their guests feel like royalty, even if only for a weekend. I know, I lived on Cable Beach, a very short walk down the beach from there.
Another pleasant memory was The Queen Elizabeth Hotel. It was on a hillside in town and was well known for its varied cuisine from Bahamian Conch salad to French Escargot. It was there in the company of good friends, soft evening lights and warm balmy breezes that I broadened my taste for exotic foods, exquisite wines and a lifestyle I will never forget.
