We just returned June 16th.I've read some of the negative reviews, but it's only as fun as you make it.We had a fantastic time!If you enjoy snorkeling, this is the place! We also went to Xel-Ha,but it didn't compare.
As far as the nightlife goes,we had a good time at the resort just hanging out at the swing bar.NOBODY was at the discotec.I suggest you talk to the entertainment staff (Yvonne,Chavo,Luis&Paco). They'll show you a good time!We went to the 'Mambo Cafe' in Playa. It was awesome! They'll let you know about the night trips. It usually costs around $30,AND INCLUDES TRANSPORTATION&OPEN BAR.By far,it was the entertainment staff that made the trip (& the resort)-tell 'em I said so.
Every afternoon, they play 'tequilla volleyball'.That was the highlite of our day.Fortunately,we were there with a fun group of people-hope you are too.I could go on and on,but basically, the service is fantastic, the food is so-so,the reef is amazing, and the rooms leave a bit to be desired-but how much time do you spend in there anyway?--Almost forgot about the peacocks. We had an incredibly noisy male perched on our balcony for seven nights (though,if we weren't feeding him so well,he might have left).
