El Dorado Royale

Postby Tina on Wed Feb 05, 2003 8:07 pm

My fiance and I have booked our honeymoon at the El Dorado Royale for April. I have been reading many reviews for the hotel, most of which have been positive, but there are some very scary negative ones. Is it possible people are confusing the El Dorado (3 star) with the El Dorado Royale (5 star)? If you have been to the El Dorado Royale and have some TRUE comments about the place, please email me and let me know what you thought about it.
Thanks
Tina

Hi Tina, I went to the el Dorado Royale last May with two other couples. We had a great time. The staff was pleasant, the food was great, the property was beautiful. There was not much nightlife there, so if you are looking for that you may want to stay in Cancun. We went into cancun one night with a staff member and had a great time. you won't be dissapointed!. We may be going back this May, we are still deciding. Have a great time!

Hi Tina, My wife & I were @ the Royale the first week of 2/03. It was the 1st trip without kids in 22 yrs & it was wonderful. Very limited nitelife, which was ok, we had each other and did not seek a crowd. Staff is mostly very nice, remember that you are in a different country and things are a bit more laid back, so when you order dinner or lunch, it might take a little longer than you think it should. Relax and have another drink. Mail me direct for more information. I truely don't think you will be disappointed. The settings we saw for weddings were beautiful. The beach varies from almost perfect to be careful. Water shoes eliminate the risk. All of the pools were very nice & water temp acceptable. Day time temp was 85-90 and night was 65-68. Sunrise's were spectacular. My wife & I could have skipped the day trip to Cancun, you might want to avoid it due to the college crowd. Xel-Ha and Tulum were fantastic. I better quit stop, I'm babbling and want to go back NOW!

Hi,

My husband and I are going to Eldorado Royale in June. We were wondering if the snorkeling was good at this resort.

Thanks,

Teanna

A couple questions. How is the snorkeling and/or the scuba diving around the resort. How good is the night life there meaning if you want to sit out with your spouse and have a few drinks after dinner and enjoy the evening?

Hi Tina. Wife & I went 2nd week of Jan.03 and had a great time at ROYALE.

This was our 3rd trip to area. Staff was accomodating all round. Rooms clean & comfortable. Resort was laid out nicely. Beach little rocky out front, but if you take a stroll south, there's an absolutely stunning beach about 15 min away. Great place to relax, but you make your own fun here, esp. in evenings, as crowd is 30ish plus. Some general tips. Book early for dinner reservations. Tip early during week.

Book oceanfront. Don't worry bout the neg. reviews, as I suspect some are a little more high maintenance and needy than others. Get to know the staff and it will go a long way! Be patient & try to speak the lingo and I promise, the staff will treat you & the fiance well. Congrats on the upcoming nuptial & hope your vacation is the best! Dos cervesa por favor.

P.S.I agree with Dennis S.'s earlier post.
Phil

I am so glad to hear more positive reviews, My Fiance and I will be spending our honeymoon at The Royale and are very excited. Other reviews made me nervous but these are truly reassuring.

If any other newlyweds will be there from 04/05/2003-05/12/2003, let me know, we will grab a drink!!!

My husband and I just returned from our trip to the El Dorado Royale. It was our honeymoon and we had booked the honeymoon package. Overall, the trip was very nice and we had a very relaxing time. Management needs a lot of improvement. Funjet did not have us on the list for ground transportation to and from the resort. We tried clearing things up and never got a straight answer. Later after leaving the resort learned that transportation was part of the honeymoon package. We arrived on Monday and it took us until Thursday to recieve our robes and Friday to recieve our champagn. We were checking out on Sat. We had to be persistent with the concierge to get our candlelight dinner on the beach and it was not lobster as some web sites say. These are small complaints, but the whole time we were there we were trying just to get our honeymoon package with excuses of being at 100% capacity. The mmajority of staff were very friendly, management really needs improvement. My husband wittnessed the bar staff being cussed out by a manager and then he took all of the tip money out of the jar calling it taxes. That will put a damper on a night. We never got a reservation at any of the restaurants because of full capacity. I also read from one review that the crowd was 30ish, more like 50ish. I heard a comment from a table saying that it was "parents gone wild". That was about right, parents with grown children. The activites and nightlife need a desperate makeover. I think they had a CD from the early 90's playing the whole time. My suggestion, stay at a resort futher south of Cancun.

Two days ago we arrived in The Netherlands. The two weeks before we had our honeymoon at the El Dorado Royale. We were having a great time. People were friendly, the lunches, dinners and snacks are very tastefull. If we could do our honeymoon again, it would be this resort agin, with no doubts !

One suggestion : make early reservations for the restaurants.

Kindly regards, Jeroen en Marieke.

Sarah, my new wife and I will be arriving May 7th for a 7 night honeymoon. We have a casita suite booked and am looking forward to our trip. I hope some of the negative reviews are mixing the El dorado spa and resort up with the Royale. Anyway, we'll be glad to meet you for a drink or two.

Hi there. My husband and I are going there in Feb/04. Some of these posts worry me but all in all, a week there will be awesome just to do nothing. How do you know how much to tip? Did you leave the resort to do some shopping like open markets?

Hi-

Planning a trip to EDR in early March with my wife. She would like some information on the spa. Specifically, what are the types of treatments that are offered and the costs. Are there package deals? Also, can anyone provide information on the gym/exercise facilities?

Thanks,
Fred
