EL Dorado Royale

We are supposed to be traveling to the El Dorado Royale resort on November 6th. Can anyone tell us how much damage it suffered?

Thanks!
Michael

Michael,

We are scheduled to be in Akumal on Nov. 2nd and then Playa del Carmen, the El Dorado, on Nov. 6th. I'm afraid it doesn't look good. Wilma went right over the El Dorado area very slowly at Cat 4 strength. The odds that it didn't suffer sever damage are not good. We will probably have to re-schedule or cancel. Have you heard anything else?

Denise-

Thanks for the update. We have to agree with you. It's probably unrealistic to think they will be open for business by Nov. 6th. If we hear anything, we will be sure to post it.

Nov. 6th 2005 is only a few weeks away. I seriously doubt that they will be available to take in guests. Even if they did not suffer alot of damage (unlikely because they are right on the beach) the general area is going to be for many weeks - roads, the employees etc.

I would wait one more day and try to find some specifics about the hotel and the area. Also, check out the forums at http://www.playa.info they have a number of locals that post/moderate their travel boards. They might have first hand info before most others...

El Dorado Resort in Playa del Carmen

Hi, I am a bride and we are scheduled to be in Playa del Carmen at the El Dorado NOV. 11th. I read your notes and also the link that was supplied. I was just wondering if you had any updates and if anyone has contacted the hotel? How hard is it to change a timeshare?

We just returned fro running from Wilma. We were staying at the El Dorado Royale. We were evacuated to a University that was used as a shelter. When we left, there was no communication with the resort. We did have word that Cancun airport took a big hit. Good luck with your travels. The resort was wonderful prior to Wilma. Wonderful place for a honeymoon

Well, I am getting a recording when we call their direct number. While that does not sound good, the reports listed at http://www.playa.info mention that Playa was not hit as hard as the news reports seem to state.

That being said, RCI just informed me that they are telling everyone that everything is closed until at least Nov. 2nd. They should have more news by Friday (October 28th) of this week!

If you go to Tripso.com they have posts that state that El Dorado Royale suffered minimal structural damage but would not be accepting guests until Nov 8th.

Well, we couldn't wait, and we couldn't get any open flights to anywhere else in Mexico. So...it's off to a week in Vegas! Mandalay's beach is as close as we can get to the ocean!!

Good luck everyone!
