El Dorado Resort

Postby Wendy on Wed Aug 27, 2003 8:15 pm

I've got a lot of mixed messages about the ElDorado Resort and Spa. Would like to hear from people who have been there since the renovations. What is the food like? Is the beach good for swimming and snorkelling? What is the entertainment like? It seems like a small resort and the pictures are great. Does it hold up to the hype??

We stayed there last October (2002) and we are going back this October. We enjoyed it, the beach is on a coral reef so of corse it is rocky. Take water shoes. Not really much to do but relax and socialize. We did not want an activity director climbing up our butts all day, we wanted a bartender who was on top of things and we got that. The food was ok, I have had worse. We are going early October 2003.

We just got back on Sept 1. Ask for an upgrade for you room and you can bargain them way down. We were there during an unfortunate rainy week. During that time, there were no activities planned. We worked out in the gym, which is great, got a massage and took a nap and then just hung out at the bars with the other rained out vacationers. The restaurants are great. The buffet is adequate. Avoid the hot dogs and hamburgers at all costs. The staff appreciates tips. The beach is a bit rocky, so take beach shoes. There's limited area to swim, but if the current is not to great you can snorkel and kayak right there. Lots of beach to walk and enjoy. Nice people too. Kind of high pressure Time Share to avoid. They try to get you to book an hour meeting that turns into about 3 hours and all you get is a coupon for $100 off a massage. Not worth it. The place is immaculate. They have 24 hour room service too.
We had a good time, hope you do.

Wendy,

We just returned home from El Dorado Resort and Spa after staying 7 days we still weren't ready to come home.

The food was great. The only night I really didn't care for the food was the Mexican Buffet night. I believe that was on Wednesday.

The beach is very rocky right in front of the resort. The second largest reef in the world is located in that area. But, walk down the beach about a half mile and there is a powdery white sand beach that is wonderful. There is a turtle conservatory and the sea turtles lay their eggs in that area. It was GREAT!!

Snorkelling is said to be wonderful, however the ocean was pretty rough and we didn't snorkle while we were there.

There were 2 nights of entertainment a Mexican Show on Wednesday night and a Carribean Show on Saturday night.

It is a very small resort compared to some of the others, but we found that you can be as busy or as laid back as you want to be. If you are looking for a nice romantic time with someone you love this is the Right Place!!!

Have Fun!!

Vickie

I will have my pictures back Friday if you wnt me to email some I would be happy to.....just email and let me know.

Had to cancel our annual October trip due to surgery. Plan to go 1-11-04. Anyone interested in going from the central Texas area.
