Cuban Cigars from Jamaica

Postby frank3210 on Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:55 am

I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if I was to be in Jamaica for vacation, and purchased cuban cigars, would I be able to get them back into the U.S.A.? Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

Cuban Cigars...

Postby nealw on Tue Feb 14, 2006 3:43 pm

Frank,

Legally you can buy them and smoke them in Jamaica. However, there is still a ban on importing goods from Cuba into the United States.

I would venture a guess that there a lot's of people who break this law and bring in a box of Cubans. Though if you get caught by Customs they will confiscate them and you and your children and grand children will be put on the FBI watch list. :-)

shouldn't be a problem. i brought some back from Belgium this summer. i would recommend that you don't hide them, just put them in your suitcase, and if customs gets you just play dumb and tell them that you thought is was illegal to sell them in the US, and didn't realize that you couldn't bring them into the US. worst they are going to do is take them from you.

I'm going to be in JA. on Feb. 19th. I've been several times and have found that while you can buy cigars from cuba, it is still illegal to bring them into the U.S.
That said , I have friends who have gotten them in by putting them into checked luggage and hope for the best. The penelty if caught is forefiture of the goods.
Hope this helps.

illegal

actually, it is illegal as a US citizen, no matter where you are, to purchase (trade) with cubans whatsoever. It is specifically stated in the Cuban Embargo Trade Act. I got this from the U.S. government web page. Not that people just ignore this or anything, but just so you know, just because you are in a foreign country doesn't mean it isn't illegal for you to trade with Cuba. I'd be careful bringing them into the US. Why risk it anyway? It doesn't seem worth it to me.

It is illegal, and tourists returning from Jamaca face strict searches due to marijuana smuggling.
Even if you replaced the rings and box, they still might now.
Also, buying cuban cigars in Jamaca isnt that easy. There are tons of fakes.

Yes just take the ring off the cigar and out them in a jamincan cigar box. Put the rings in your wallet and you are done. I did it and have been enjoying th esmokes.

You can get them in from Canada by changing the band and putting them in a different box. HOWEVER if you do this in jamaica you'll probably be caught. They check bags all the time to check for weed in peoples bags, dogs sniff you out etc. I've yet to see the punishment for getting caught with them..If they just yell at you and take them so what right?

yes as a US citizen you can not smoke cuban cigar. so dont even think of smoking them legally. so find some unfavorable means so that you can have one. my recommendations are Cohiba cigars...
