My husband and I are schedule to go to Cozumel on Dec 3. We are not experienced travellers and are unsure if we should cancel our trip or if the island will be welcoming tourists at the beginning of December. I have to say that I feel guilty even asking this question as I know that a lot of people are probably going through difficult times at the moment and are not even getting their basic needs met..
We are suppose to stay at the Cozumel Reef Resort. I am looking for advise and/or a report on the state of the island. Thanking you in advance,

You should wait just a few days and continue to find some updated reports on the area.

I have a feeling it will take a few months before they (coz, playa, cancun) are "ready" for tourists.

Right now I would simply start creating a "back-up" plan just incase. Pick a new island and send a few emails to check availabilty at some hotels. Then if you HAVE to change your plans you can be ready.

I just got back from Cozumel and was there during the hurricane. As far as I know the damage to Cozumel is quite extensive. Playa del Carmen is thriving though, their beaches have been cleaned up and 5th avenue is almost completely open for business. Two days after the hurricane Playa was sending out tours and there were tourists having a good time all over the place. There are a lot of great hotels in Playa, I would change my plans to hotel there and then take a ferry to Cozumel to see the damage for yourself.
