Wilma made some damages to the shore line but snorkeling is still very good.

I can show you some pictures.

Reef Club Update & Photos

Postby ecollier on Mon Jun 26, 2006 9:35 pm

Me and the family just returned from a 10 day vacation in Cozumel. Being from the gulf coast ( hurricane alley) I expected most of the island to still be destroyed. What I found was just the opposite. Looks like the whole island pitched in to get the downtown area and major hotels up and running as quickly as possible. I can honestly say that at least 90% of downtown was open for business. The one major difference between this year’s trip and previous years was the lack of tropical vegetation. This was especially true at the resorts. Most of the islands resorts lost the larger palms, bamboo, and other tropical plants to hurricane Wilma. The good new is that hundreds of plants are being replanted daily.

Our resort - The Reef Club - had dozens of gardeners working every day planting new palms, ferns, bamboo, etc. I was also surprised to see the many upgrades the Reef Club put in place. They managed to completely remodel the main lobby, all the rooms, the pools, the bars, restaurant , etc. It’s amazing how much work they accomplished in just one year.

I have posted several hundred photos of Cozumel and the Reef Club from our trip in June. The photos can be found on the website Reef Club Photos I hope to post the Wilma video to the same site soon. This video was shot by a security guard at one of the hotels as the hurricane came ashore.

Chankanaab Park

How did the reefs survive at Cankanaab? I know that you said snorkling was good, but was curious if that includes this park. Thanks!

its been quite a while since I've been to Cozumel. i remember going to Carlos-n-Charlies and having a blast. I stayed at a hotel called the Cozumelano (spelling is off) that was destoryed by a hurricane; although i don't remember the name of the hurricane. Anyone know if Wilma was the culprit in destorying this hotel?
