I have not stayed at Negril Couples, but I HAVE Stayed at Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios (there are 2 couples resorts in Ocho Rios), and I have spent the better part of 2 weeks reading EVERYTHING i can find about Jamaica All inclusive resorts on the internet! I am near 50 and hubby is 60. I found that there were MANY MORE people our age than I expected -- it was almost 50-50 between the newly weds and anniversary/vacation older crowd. This may also change according to the time of year. For example, MANY young couples get married in June in the northern states - it is after the rainy season and before the heat and humidity set in. So they might get an onslought of young people at that time of year in all the all-inclusive resorts. Also, my observation and that of many on the forums is that at the all inclusive-type resorts the food may not be quite what a first timer would expect, they are feeding so many people at once.
Not that it is bad, but usually between mediocre and good.. not excellent all of the time. If you don't expect too much, then you will be pleasantly surpised. I'm sure some resorts have better food than others, and none of it except maybe the scrambled eggs was BAD at couples, but it was not the best food i had ever eaten. As you read the forums you will find that is the opinion of the majority. Other than that EVERYTHING at couples in Ocho Rios was GREAT! The entertainment is terrific, the rooms are nice... again, not 5 star, but it is so great, that you won't be spending much time in your room anyway! We found lots of little "hidden" spots to enjoy together including a Jacuzzi way off in the hills that it seemed like no one else knew was there. There are TWO Couples resorts in Negril and my research found something very weird. In the lower priced room categories 1 of them did not include a TV and the other resort did not include a mini fridge (which we found helpful for bottled water, cokes, beer and maybe a midnite snack). I called Couples toll free number to see that I had this right, and yes, it is true for like their 2 or 3 lowest category rooms. Also of note when booking your Jamaican couples resort vacation --- don't make the mistake I just did. I ASS UMED that some of the tours off Sandals properties would be FREE like they are at Couples resorts. Not true. Where Couples Resorts include free Catamaran trip, at Sandals it is 78.00 pp! Here is the link to the tours at Sandals Negril:
http://www.sandals.com/main/negril/ne-activities.cfm That is over $150 per couple to do what Couples offers for free ... or at least it was free when we went last year! I think the only thing Couples charged for was Horseback Riding and one other thing. We went to Dunn's River Falls for free (bring water shoes or you will have to rent them and it weirded me out to wear shoes that others had worn!!! and you can NOT climb the falls without them! Its also cheaper to bring an underwater camera from home than to buy one at the Falls) We also did a shopping excursion which was FREE. We only go away 4 days at a time due to owning our own business, so we didn't get to do all they had to offer, but the number of items on their list of free excursions was up around 8 or 10. There are SO MANY different things to consider. If you like the Nude or Clothing Optional aspect, here are a couple of things I found in my forum searching..... one of the resorts.. can't remember which one, has a private island for au natural. It got rave reviews! It has its own bar, pool and beach. I'm sure you could find out if you asked the specific question on a forum as to which resort has this. ALSO. There is a resort that we were leaning to as having had GREAT reviews and the lowest price - Club Ambiance. It is in Runaway Bay. It is smaller than the other resorts, but again, it has some really great reviews, and it has a nude beach AND they allow topless at the pool. Another resort that I found that looked appealing that has a huge area for nudists is Grand Lido Braco, Jamaica. They have a whole section of the resort dedicated to Nudists. They have nicknamed the areas The Nude Side and the Prude Side. They have some very good reviews as well, and it seemed interesting that the resort is set up like a city with a Town Square, which has entertainers performing in the streets in the evening, and all sorts of other cool things you would find in a mediterranean city. Tripadvisor.com rates it number 6 of 13 resorts in Runaway Bay. The last 2 I noted may not have quite as much to offer as Couples or Sandals resorts do, or may not be quite as big, but they are other places you might want to look into for the Nude aspect. I'm no expert, and others may have other advice, but having spent 100s of hours on the internet researching prior to booking my last Jamaican trip -- this will be our 3rd --- I thought that some of this might be helpful to you. One last word of advice.... Look at EVERYTHING thoroughly before booking. Even after all my research, i did not know until AFTER booking that Sandals has discontinued their free excursions. I only found out by accident about the lack of TV at one Couples Negril resort (in their lowest category rooms) and the lack of fridge at the other Couples Negril resort. I can't imagine my husband without either, which is why we booked Sandals this time. Otherwise I think we would have stuck with Couples resorts since we did find so many people our age. If this is your first trip you will also want to find out about which rooms / sections are best. It can make a big difference as to how nice your room will be, or if it will be near a bar, which might be loud. etc. There is so much to look into, but the more homework you do ahead of time, the less likely you will be unpleasantly surprised. Enjoy your trip! We will be there April 21st for 4 days. We chose Negril for the Sunsets!
