Copacabana Beach Resort

My husband and I have just retured from 4 nights at the above resort. I am a travel agent, but received no special treatment. I travelled just as anyone else would.

We loved the place......except for basically the food and then only at dinner. The rooms are large, spacious and quiet we never head anyone else or noise from public areas, mostly because of the way the hotel is arranged. We had a third floor room (no elavator) looking out over the tree tops in the midde. The room had a king bed, amoire with tv and refrigerator. For some reason the only think you get in the fridge is 2 bottle of soda and 5 bottles of water, no alcohol. It was replenished everyday. The bath had a large walk in marble shower, two sinks, hair dryer and shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, shoe shine amenities.

Now for the food. There are two large buffet restaurants. One for full breakfast and dinner off the lobby and the other by the pool/beach for continental breakfast and lunch. I had no complaints about either of those two meals, but dinner had a theme every night, Oriental, Mexican, Caribbean, Italian. What it lacked in quality it made up for in quantity. There are 2 a la carte which require advance reservations. We had dinner in the Mexican the night before we came home. I was not feeling well but the food was better than the buffet restaurant, although the service needs work.

Along the lines of the food, the drinks seemed watered down and when I had my Mexican coffee the last night it had tequilla, kaluha and anise, but the kaluha was not Kaluha it was some off brand. In Mexico!!!!

If you want a quiet get away with a superb beach, friendly people and a nice room to come "home" to this is it.

I have just returned from a 7 night trip with 4 girlfriends to the Copacabana. Although we had a BLAST, the hotel was experiencing a/c problems the entire time we were there. If you think, oh no big deal, think again! It was impossible to sleep without sweating or get dressed for dinner without almost passing out from the heat. The mgmt. didn't really care either. Everytime I went to the desk they gave me a different story about why the a/c wasn't working. We only had it for 3 nights of our 7 night trip. I spoke with many other guests and they experienced the same thing and were furious too. Changing rooms didn't help either - it worked for about an hour in our new room then was out for 2 days again.

Other than that, which was a huge disappointment, everthing else was ok. The entertainment staff works from 10am at the pool and beach, til 2am dancing with everyone at the disco. They were truly unbelievable and put on great live shows every night.

The food was so-so at the buffets. There was a wide selection so picky eaters like me even found something to eat. BEWARE of the mosquitoes at the Italian resturaunt. I have 14 bites on my legs that still itch a week after being home. We could barely sit through our dessert.

Would I go back? Only if I was assured that the a/c was fixed for good. Otherwise I'd pick another hotel.
