I will be visiting Turks and Caicos shortly and would like to have my cell phoe service (Verizon) swithched to someting that will work on the island. Anyone have experience with this?

Spoke to Verizon today.
They state all you have to do is dial
*228 and then hit SEND when you get to Turks. He said that it would cause your Verizon phone to access the satellites in the Turks area and it would cost $.69 a minute. The only problem would be if you were inland or near a forest you may lose connection.

You can rent a cell phone from Cable and Wireless in Provo for less than your "roam" rates will be. There's a C&W at the airport and one at the IGA... and several others around the island you can rent the phones from.

Hi, I just came back from Turks and Caicos last week. We were at the Beaches Resort. The only cell phones that were able to get a signal were Singular . I have Nextel, my friend has Verizon and we had no signal at all.
