Yes we have been there twice. the beach is great, the snorkelling is great and the trip to Sian Kahn biosphere is wonderful but quite an adventure if you are up to it. The small town of tulum is getting bigger and has more shopping. The trip from Cancun is 1.5 hours. the myan ruins at tulum are great but the tourist trap is awful. Go to Coba instead.

We have been there 5 times and are planning to be there at the end of June 2005.
We are from Missouri and there is no place on earth I would rather be than there.
Hotel guests mostly use the beach. It is clean and cleaned everyday of seaweed and junk. The snorkeling is great and the huge waves are stopped by a barrier reef before they hit the beach.
Tulum is not very far away and a great place to enjoy Mayan ruins.
We like the food a lot. Fresh fish, stuffed avocados with shrimp, and watermelon juice are just a few of my favorites.
We snorkeled in a cenote and visited the Mayans' who owned the property.
The best entertainment we ever experience down there were the dancers from South America and Cuba who danced the night away.
I love this place. We like the Bellagio in Vegas, but Club Oasis in Akumal is laid back, relaxed, and charming and just as great in its' own right.
If you are looking for wild nights and the party atmosphere, then the Oasis is not the place to go.

I tried to send an email to forestdogs2000@yahoo.com and received a message that my email couldn't be delivered. So I am putting the text of the email in this message to see if you or anyone else will reply.

Hi,

I just read your message about loving this hotel, etc.

My husband and I are going there June 2nd for 5
nights. I was concerned about the possibility of lots
of rain at that time. Did you experience anything like
that in June?

Is the weather and water warm enough to do lots of
swimming in the ocean and snorkelling? The last times
we went to Cancun and Punta Cana and I kept feeling
the beach breezes and water were too cool for me to
swim as much as I wanted to.

I'd love to hear anything else you'd like to tell me
about the hotel, surrounds, etc. because we're getting
very excited about going there. How many nights did
you stay? We'll be leaving from boston. did you have
any problems with the air travel?

Thank you so much if you choose to answer this.

Marilyn, you can day trip to Cancun and take the ferry over to the Chankannab Lagoon in Cozumel off the tip of Cancun. There is great snorkeling in the hotel next door too.

All I know about the weather is when you pay less, the weather can tend to be not so good where it's hit or miss for rain or hurricanes, but hurricanes tend to be more in Sept-Oct.

My sister and I spent 7 consecutive years vacationing at this resort. We haven't returned since they expanded the hotel and seperated the Italian guest from the other guests. THAT did not sit well with us. I also was not there to see the tremendous hotel they built just south of Our Place.

When we went there, WE LOVED IT. We loved the staff, the beach, the wonderful people we met (usually half Europeaners and half Texans). We made lots of friend and saw them when we returned each year. Yes, the food was always getting better and better. We were so blessed for so many years there. I still miss the wonderful staff members, they were like family. When we first started going there (1992) it was like a retreat. Very quiet -very relaxing. Everytime I hear an older Kenny G song it transports me back to beautiful and peaceful Akumal.

I don't know how it is now. I just hope whenever you go---you have a memorable trip like my sister and I had for so many years. Best wishes,

Joanne

(we made a promise to the staff [and we kept it too] that we would never tell any LIers about Akumal because we didn't want them to ruin it. LIers have a bad reputation for a reason. ;))

I was just reading some of the older posts for this question. Oh God, they still have the stuffed Avocados and shrimp and the garlic fish too? My favorites. How about the vegtable/black bean soup? Heavenly!!!

I still see the band from Havana, Cuba still perform. If Adrian Ortega is still with the band, please send my best regards.

The last time I was there they were in the process of expanding the main road from 2 lanes to 4 lanes. I can't imagine how the place has changed. I'm so happy I went when I did. When you are there, ask other guests how long they have been coming there. I would hear people say, 16 years, 11 years and so on.

The place if very special. Hey and if you get bad weather, enjoy it. Once it poured. A tropical storm was rolling in. Management ushered the guests through the kitchen to get to the dinning hall. It was fun and interesting to see everyone preparing our meals. And of course, the workers were smiling and proud to show you their kitchen. It was a great experience and we would have not had it had it not rained like cats and dogs. And since there was absolutely nothing else to do other than eat, we all (and I mean we ALL) sat around, introduced ourselves and exchanged our Akumal stories. A great way to make friends.

Enjoy!!!!!!

Yes, we have been many times. This year will be our 12th trip there. It is our "home away from Home". We love it so much that we now have a group of 12 that goes every year (we started with just 2 of us). The staff is wonderful, the rooms are nice and you can't beat the beach and calm water.
