Bay Island Beach Resort

Postby MPH on Sun Jun 25, 2006 6:12 pm

Just got back from a week at BIBR. It is a mom/pop operation, and most of the rooms need refurbishing.

Most of the rooms are tired, paint flaking, holes in the wall, broken screens, and not worth the money.

Dive operation is good, with a competent staff. Only one dive boat functional that we could see.

Food prep or Food handling needs the greatest attention as 2 of my group contracted food poisoning, as well as 4 of the canadian group.

A look in the kitchen tells the tale of a not- so sanitary food prep area.

All in all, I would stay away from this resort and spend the money elsewhere.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU. YOUR REVIEW OF BAY ISLAND MAY HAVE SAVED MY HONEYMOON. WE HAVE BEEN LOKING AT ANTHONYS KEY BUT MY WIFE WOULD LIKE A LITTLE MORE BEACH. HAVE YOU SEEN ANY OTHER PLACES THAT LOOKED NICE BUT LESS $ THAN AKR.

Went in July - had no problems with food or rooms. Both were simple, but everything was clean and no one was sick. Agree with you on the dive staff - excellent - one of the best I have been diving with.

We loved it

Was there in the spring & thought the resort was great. Stayed one week up in the main house and one week in the waterfront building. Both rooms were in good shape and very clean. Great food, very nice restaurant servers- esp. the bartender who can dance with a tray of drinks on his head. Excellent dive staff & nice boats. We liked the Eloise, one with the second level best. We chartered the fastboat for a fishing trip which was great!

The island isn't fancy, but we had a great time. if you like outdoor activities like diving, snorkeling, hiking then this is a terrific place for a vacation.

We are going back in Dec.

I have not stayed at the resort but I visited it for an afternoon a few years back. Toured the property and met the owners. I thought the resort was great. If you look at there website what you see is what you get...a niche dive resort.

Hi,
I agree with you.Very noisy and old fashion hotel, no mosquito net! The baddest food I ever eat.But I must say the staff were quite friendly - front office, bartenders, room boys, waiters all included.
