Banking

Postby Darby on Tue Mar 08, 2005 12:37 pm

I'll be traveling to the Caymans soon & am wondering... are there any special requirements to open a Cayman Bank Account. If so can you point me in the right direction.

Thanks so much!

I'm no expert but depending on the bank there may be rather large minimum deposit amounts and other various requirements that need to be meet. I assume you are inquiring about investment type accounts to be used to shelter income. There are legal ways to do this.

Now I assume any resident of the Cayman Islands can open a basic checking/savings account.

Darby,
Check the Cayman government web site (don't have the url available right now) but they will have the info you need to know about before getting there. With the anti drug cartel things now you have to prove your finances are legit and not from drug dealing, etc. You have to have letters of introduction from financial institutions where you live and various other hoops you have to jump through. I believe it also depends on what country you're from too.
Anyway, check the site and you'll find the necessary info.
Good luck and enjoy the island.
Also, most banks on the island require you to make a transaction every so often so your account doesn't go inactive. Some chareg to getr it active again so beware of that catch too.
