Bahia Principe Tulum, Mexico

Postby DDF on Mon Jan 06, 2003 4:18 pm

Has anyone out there have a review that can be sent. We are travelling to this particular resort in April of this year. There will be 16 of us in total and want to make sure we have made the right decision about booking this resort. We have been to the Akumal area before, but need info regarding this resort (i.e. rooms, beach, food, etc.)

Thank you.

Hi. We stayed at Bahia Tulum in Oct of 2000. It was nice. We went with another couple, we had to wait quite a while for our room, upon our arrival. Our friend's had their room right away.
What we did not like about this resort, we were the last to arrive - and the first ones to pile on the to bus, to go home. This is because it's soooo far away. If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to answer .

For the person asking about this resort, we are going to the same resort next week and have heard mainly good things. A really good website to visit is tripadvisor.com. They have quite a few reviews of all resorts in this area including the Tulum.

We just got home. I can't tell you how disappointed we were.Last year we went to Barcela Maya.We had 32 family members and no one had a problem. When we arrived at this place we had one king bed for three of us.The next night we got 2 strange phone calls in the middle of the night from some man who could barely speak English- I assume from someone working there. The next morning a male staff member knocked on the door and proceeded to open our room door even though the Do not Disturb sign was on it! We complained and they moved us to another room but were evidently not pleased about it.They claimed the calls must have been from another room-someone who knew us.Truth is we had met no one.I wonder if they could have figured out where they came from but didn't bother. When we got our bill, we were charged for a phone call to Portugal even though we had made no calls. With some complaining, they did remove the charge.I felt unwell half way through the week and continue to feel rotten as does my daughter.I can't believe we paid that much for so much aggrevation!
Thankfully our tour rep was supportive and helpful. The facility itself is beautiful -lots of stone and marble but felt too large. There is a shuttle.
Much of the beach is unusable.

We have been there a year ago and loved it so much we are returning again this month. A hint is book your 3 favorite restaurants as soon as you arrive. They book up fast. Also the connecting hotel is very European and a lot go topless. You do not need to take a tour to Xel Ha for snorkeling. A cab will only cost you a couple of dollars and it's very close to the hotel. They supply you with snorkeling equipment etc. and you can stay as long as you like. We will definitely do that again. Food is also very good. I don't think you will be disappointed. Have fun.

i will be arriving at your resort on 07 20 03 and spending a week. i need info on what dive resort to book with. i would like to dive cozumel as much as i possibly can. is there any dive operators close by our resort that do boat dives to cozumel regularly. if not how far away do i have to go to catch a ferrie boat across to cozumel. if you know of any dive opperators close by our resort who would cater to me and my buddie and could get us to dive sites in cozumel all week we would compensate them quite nicely. thanks for any assisstance you could be to me.

Whatever you do, take all negative reviews with a grain of salt...can't please everyone.

Check out Debbie's Caribbean Resort Reviews or Trip Advisor, they have alot of reviews, most of them excellent.

We are going for our second time on April 17 and can't wait, amazing resort!

Me and my boyfriend stayed here two years ago and loved it so much that we are going back this june. It is a big resort but because of its size you dont feel you are confined. The food, beach, pools, service were all amazing and in the evenings there is so much to do, your never bored. Its a long ride from the airport but for us (coming from the UK) we didnt get much sleep on the 10hour plane ride so it was a chance to catch up on some much needed sleep. Dont listen to any bad reviews, it is an amazing resort and we would definitely recommend it to anyone.
