This is my first visit to the Cancun area but not my first visit to Mexico. I would never go to Cancun because it is not true Mexico its a playground for mega resort goers and I describe it as a cruise boat without the boat.

Anyway, I booked Azulik directly with them after finding the website on clothing optional search. OHMYGOD I like to be naked and so does my other half. My call was returned and I setup 3 nights in the Internet cabana and 2 nights in number 3. Travel dates were 24th - 29th June 2004. I'll take number 3 as the better of the two IMO.

Overall it was very clean, fresh flowers arranged under the netting and a towel arranged like they do at the all-inclusive places. OK its cute but you have to clean it off before getting into bed lol. There was also a bottle of wine but I'm not sure if it was complimentary I didn't get the bill. lol

Before or after I booked (cannot recall) I read the reviews and was a bit doubtful. However that being said I read a little about the area. its off season that means HOT, bugs, take bug spray and a flashlight. You don't need a flashlight but i took a small one, as well as two of the taplights that operate on batteries. Thanks for whoever mentioned that on a review. Also leave excess clothing at home we travel in a backpack. Open season for mosquitoes but I was educated in advance so I expected it and took some spray.

For management: your staff was friendly and prompt. We had a bathtub leak and I didn't need to tell them. They noticed the water from somewhere in our cabana and shut off the hot water in the middle of my bath. It was funny and they fixed that and the hot water promptly.

Owner Recommendations: Solar powered fans should be installed above the netting in the rooms or replace the glass/plastic with screens for more air. It was way to warm to sleep under the netting. We left the door open to get the ocean breeze and slept on the swinging bed for more air. If the cabanas would be opened up a little more, sleeping under the netting would be fine. Also provide some solar power or electric fans for the help at the reception. You power a computer there and they are your front lines they need some comfort as well, I felt bad for them. Oh yeah install a wireless access point, your already have a router and it can be located anywhere. You can even purchase a couple and give all of Copal and Azulik wireless Internet. www.buy.com will sell it to you.

After our 2nd night we moved into cabana number three and after the first night in that cabana I asked the receptionist if I could remain there for the remaining 3 nights. They had no problem and obliged. The breeze through the open door was much better.

More observations for management: Besides the services menu in the cabanas, we were never asked if we'd like any spa services. This is a selling point for you. I could have asked. Lol

Our transfer was a bit annoying cause we didn't arrive in Cancun till late (9pm) and the driver took someone else to a resort before you get to Tulum and had to drive all over trying to find the right location. We didn't arrive at Azulik till midnight. Good thing I don't get upset to easy and hey it was dark anyway. The return portion however was right on time and non stop so that was good.

Tulum itself was exactly what we were looking for. Nice beaches, few tourists and great food. Copal make the best guacamole, that is all we ate there. The whole fish grilled with garlic and lime at Zamas was fantastic. All 2.5 kilos of red snapper and we ate it all, ok I ate more then she did. I like to eat its ok A great flan there as well and right on the water.

We walked to the Tulum ruins on the road about 2.5 miles and returned via the beach route. Whoever mentions get there early on as review thank you as well.
Get there early cause once the cruise and Cancun tourons (rhymes with morons) arrive get me out of here. And we did

We relaxed, sat in the sun, took baths in the outside tub and enjoyed our surroundings. I would return again in the off season less people and better rates.

The big question would I stay at Azulik... hmmm probably and I would request number 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 not number 2 sits back a little bit more then and was a bit to warm for me IMO. I would also arrive earlier and rent a car to save on the transfer I thought it was pricey but also know for the operator its a 3 hour round trip. So at 30.00US an hour not including tip. Its not so bad if you factor the time.

I would probably try some others as well you can stay in an extremely rustic cabana for $20US but remember sand floors a hammock, shared baths and no nets. But they are on the beach.

I tend to agree with this reviewer on tripadvisor.com and I hope they don’t mind me referencing their email as posted. If they do its too late

Some of the other reviews crack me up. No electricity well, hmm CAN’T YOU READ sorry. As far as rooms being robbed hmm I left a $2500.00 laptop in the room for 5 nights with the door open and I distinctly recall carrying off the plane coming home.

Ok I’m getting typers cramp email if you need more details but I don’t check the yahoo account very often. Make sure you put Azulik as the subject so I don’t discard it.
