Any House for sale in Tobago

Postby bev on Wed Sep 13, 2006 3:45 am

Hi all,
My family wants to move to Tobago as soon as possible and I,m looking for a house to buy. I would prefer the Bon Accord area but would consider any area really. Do you know anyone who is selling or can refer me.
Thanks
Bev

Why do you want to go there? The island is beautiful, but basic services are lacking (especially health care) and tourists are robbed frequently.

hi deng,
thanks for your comment, i have been there before and the place is beautiful as you said. i am looking for an island in the sun and the prices there still seem reasonable, i am not sure about the education system though. did you live there? can you provide more information on the place?

yes we did live there once. Actually, my parents had a beach house overlooking Stone Haven Bay. When I was young, as soon as scoll was out, we would fly to tobago and spend our entire vacation there. I even turned down doing to Disney World one year because I loved it so much but as they years have gone one, I have see the situation deteriorate. When we weren't there, the cartaker (a Tobagonian) never took care of the house and would mow the lawn when he knew we were comming. Another one tried to extort money from us for spreading top soil once. Basically, all the locals thing outsiders have money to burn and it is our fault for giving them that impression. I am originally from Trinidad (Tobago's sister isle) so I'm not saying this as some tourist who had a bad experience. Eventually, someone broke into the house and took up residence there. That was the last straw, my father sold the house then. When my family later visisted from the US once, they wanted to go to tobago so we took them there and they were robbed at King's Bay waterfall. Many Tourists are robbed in Tobago. The education system in Trinidad & Tobago leaves a lot to be desired if you have children. The health system is deplorable. Look the trinidad express newspapaer online, for the last week there have been stories about children dying at the hospitals and of schools whithout enouogh teachers or inadequate facilities.

In the Caribbean, the best places to live are the Cayman Islands, Virgin Islands or Bermuda.

I think, it is only good to have a rest house in Tobago because as deng, said basic services there are lacking and tourists are robbed frequently. But, if that is what your family really wants, just go on. Anyway, you can bring the things you need there and the place there is very beautiful.
