Pelican Beach Resort
Pelican Beach Resort, Dangriga, Belize - A beach front resort located in southern Belize catering to individuals, honeymooners, families and groups of all ages.
|
More Info: Welcome to Pelican Beach Resort on mainland Dangriga, your gateway to adventure in southern Belize.
Enjoy family-reciped meals with plenty of seafood, seaside bar; swaying hammocks under the thatched dock and comfortable, air-conditioned or ceiling fanned rooms. Your daily guided adventures could include the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, Dangriga Town, The Belize Zoo, the inland Blue Hole, ancient Mayan ruins, snorkeling trips on Belize's barrier reef and more........
The coastal town of Dangriga, in the Stann Creek District and home to our Pelican Beach Resort - Dangriga base, is located on the eastern end of the recently paved and very picturesque Hummingbird Highway. Deriving its name from the local Garifuna language, and loosely defined as "sweet water is close at hand", Dangriga's population of roughly 11,000 is settled along the North Stann Creek OR Gumagarugu River.
The town is primarily supported by the nearby citrus and banana industries and is perfect for getting to know the unique Garifuna culture-descendants of African slaves who intermarried with the Carib Indians of South America and originally arrived in Belize in 1823.
The Stann Creek district is one of the few districts in Belize that actually has excellent samples of ALL Belize's natural attractions. These include the World renowned Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (Jaguar Reserve); the caves and manatees of Gales Point; the Mayan ruins of Mayflower; and the exquisite coral islands of South Water, Carrie Bow and Tobacco Cayes. The latter, unlike most of Belize's islands, sit right atop the barrier reef and are located within Belize's largest marine park, the South Water Caye Marine Reserve. In addition you are within an easy day tour of the inland Blue Hole and St. Herman's Cave National Park, the Belize Zoo, and even the ancient Mayan sites of the Cayo district.
Nearby Attractions: Tours Where we go and what we do - sample our tours or let's make your own. The Pelican Beach Resorts are the perfect bases to explore both the tropical forests of the south and marine life of the splendid barrier reef. The Stann Creek Region is part of the untouched portion of Belize. Until recently, rough roads, and tall jungle kept the southern part of Belize a guarded secret. But with the reconstruction of the beautiful Hummingbird Highway and the new Coastal Road, the Southern portion of the country, along with all its natural treasures suddenly becomes easily available.
Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Reserve - tropical forests and hiking All day tour to Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, the World's First ever Jaguar Reserve, where our experienced guide will accompany you on the many well-maintained and strategically located trails in search of over 300 species of birds; howler monkeys, flora, fauna and the elusive jaguar. Other points of interest on this tour include the women's craft cooperative at Maya Center; the 19th. century Serpon Sugar mill; and the Garifuna fishing village of Hopkins.
We also offer overnight guided tours staying at the sanctuary in dormitory style accommodations. These include 5 rooms with bunk beds, composting toilets, solar powered lighting and basic cooking facilities. Pre-cooked meals are also available from Pelican Beach.
Southwater Caye - Barrier Reef and Snorkeling All day snorkeling trip to the reef and South Water Caye, a beautiful 15 acre island resting atop the barrier reef. Stop at Man-O-War Caye, one of the Caribbean's 10 largest nesting sites of the Magnificent frigate bird. Onward to South Water Caye where unlimited snorkeling awaits you from the gorgeous white sand beach, or a 5 minute boat ride to nearby patch reefs, Mangrove habitats or the spectacular drop off! Snorkeling gear available for rent at Pelican Beach.
Dangriga Cultural Town Tour Explore Dangriga with visits to renowned Belizean artist, Benjamin Nicholas and drum-maker Austin Rodriquez, then, if they're baking, visit Sabal's Cassava Farm to see the processing of the cassava root and sample some of the products they make. Don't forget to visit the array of small shops in town.
Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, and Blue Hole National Park Travel west via the newly paved Hummingbird Highway to the Blue Hole National Park, an inland sink hole (and refreshing swim), then onwards on the western highway to Cahal Pech ruins where you can view an ancient ceremonial center and dozens or plazas and temples. Lunch in San Ignacio, then ferry over to Xunantunich. the highest man-made structure in Belize. Climb the 130 foot El Castillo and enjoy a breathtaking view of western Belize and Guatemala.
Guanacaste National Park, Belize Zoo, Blue Hole, St. Herman's Cave The first stop is the Guanacaste National Park on the Western Highway where you can hike nature trails and view large Guanacaste Trees. Next stop is Belize Zoo for an 'up close' look at most of Belize's large mammals and birds as kept in their natural habitat. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then onward to the Blue Hole National Park, an inland sink hole (and refreshing swim) and trail through St. Herman's Cave.
El Pilar Travel West along the scenic Hummingbird and Western Highways and stop in south Cayo District to spend the day at this awesome nature and archaeological reserve. Spend the day birdwatching, viewing and climbing semi-restored mayan plazas, burial sites, houses. Area is surrounded by various types of flora and fauna.
Sittee River Travel by boat south to the Sittee river, for a perfect introduction to the biological wealth of tropical watersheds. Look for egrets, herons and ibises feeding along the banks as you slowly motor upriver in search of iguanas, towering fig trees and bamboo cathedrals in search of Manatee, crocodile and the hickatee turtle. Lunch on a sand bar at the mouth of the river or on the golden sand beaches at Hopkins Village.
