Site Information:
Hopkins Inn
Modern, comfortable beach cabanas located in the Garifuna village of Hopkins. Be part of the relaxed and friendly village life.
|
More Info: The Garifuna fishing village of Hopkins is located on the coast of southern Belize. It is a quiet, traditional village where old customs, including the Garifuna language, survive. Modern conveniences have been available only since the early 1990's. Hopkins' distinct culture, friendly Garinagu people, and laid back pace make for an interesting and relaxing vacation.
Nearby Attractions: One of Belize's major attractions is its 185 mile long barrier reef, the largest in the Western Hemisphere. It is dotted with hundreds of little islands called cayes. Diving and snorkeling are spectacular. The reef is about a 30 minute boat ride from Hopkins. Trips can be easily arranged.
Other attractions include the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary (Jaguar Preserve) and the Mayflower/Bocawina National Park for hiking and exploring the rainforest, and the Sittee River and nearby lagoons for wildlife watching, fishing, or canoeing.
Hopkins Inn offers snorkeling, fishing and sight-seeing, boat tours to the barrier reef/cayes and river/lagoon. We have bicycles to explore the village and surrounding area.
Diving, kayak and canoe rentals as well as tours to other parts of Belize can be arranged.
Amenities: Your cabana is located on the beach with a beautiful view over the Caribbean. It is tiled throughout, has a hardwood ceiling, a private bath with hot shower, and a clean and comfortable interior with a refrigerator, a coffee maker and fans. Relax on your private verandah or in one of our hammocks on the beach. Watch for manatees, go for a swim, chat with the villagers or just enjoy the gentle breeze.
Breakfast consisting of coffee or tea, seasonal fruits, and fresh locally baked bread is included. Several small restaurants in the village offer traditional Belizean food from rice and beans to lobster and other freshly caught seafood. All restaurants are within walking distance.
