Ocean's Edge
Ocean’s Edge is a small getaway on the southern coast of Belize along the Placencia Peninsula on Maya Beach, recently chosen as ‘The Most Beautiful Beach in Belize'.

More Info: Our Beach Houses are available for rent on a weekly basis. From our shore, the world's second largest barrier reef will be your backyard. This is world-class scuba diving and snorkeling as it's meant to be. Deserted cayes, crystal clear waters, miles of sandy beaches, abundant coral and spectacular underwater gardens teeming with sea life. Other available water sport activities include sailing, sea kayaking and deep-sea fishing. Inland activities include touring the magnificent rainforest, the world’s only jaguar preserve, Mayan ruins and cave exploration. Beach bikes will be complimentary. The property is six miles north of the Placencia airport and you will be promptly picked up the minute your plane touches down. Our Beach House design is inspired by travels throughout the Caribbean, utilizes indigenous Belizean mahogany and is tastefully decorated with Belizean artwork, tiles and fabrics. Both houses feature a kitchenette, loft bedroom facing the ocean with a queen size bed, ceiling fans, a washroom with shower, and two great hammocks on a large balcony. Should you wish to share the house between couples or bring kids, the sitting area inside features a sofa bed. If you would like to have someone prepare your meal or to take part in the local night life, there are several very good restaurants and bars within walking distance of Ocean's Edge. What we love is that twice a week, Mayan farmers pass by the property loaded with the freshest food you could imagine and a short taxi ride will take you to either Seine Bight or Placencia, where there are well stocked grocery stores and fresh seafood waiting. Ocean's Edge will offer you privacy with room to wander around the lush one-acre property, laid-back rustic luxury and a sense of splendid tranquility.
Nearby Attractions: Things We Love About Belize
If wealth were based on diversity and the health of the natural environment, Belize would be the richest of countries.
Tucked quietly between Mexico and Guatemala along the western Caribbean Sea is the little country of Belize. There are a million things to love about this place from the jaguars, tapirs and howler monkeys of the rain forest to the eagle rays, sea turtles and whale sharks of the barrier reef. Below the waterline, Belize is a welcome contrast to the crowded dive sites and over fished reefs that are becoming far too common throughout the Caribbean. The sites are pristine and the abundance of marine life is unbelievable. You will be astounded by the symphony of colors splashed before your eyes.
For the price of your dream trip around the world you could probably visit Belize a dozen times. That may be enough to get a feel for the place, but by that time it'll be too late to kick the habit. You'll be head over heels in love. You'll have your own reasons for loving Belize. Until then, here are some of ours.
The Barrier Reef
It's divine justice. One of the smallest countries in Central America has the longest barrier reef in the hemisphere. It stretches over 180 miles, from the Yucatan Peninsula all the way down to the Gulf of Honduras. Inside the reef, in the blue-lit shallows between coast and coral ridge, the waters are calm but alive with manatees, turtles, eagle rays, moray eels and mangrove-rimmed cayes.
One of the features that have always placed us in awe is the spectacular underwater walls, which seem to fall endlessly away to a deep blue. The sensation of being suspended above the bottom can only be compared to what is must feel like to be in outer space.
In the south of Belize along Maya Beach, over 200 cayes (islands) are just made for shore diving and snorkeling. Just picture yourself resting between dives on your own little deserted island, complete with white sand beaches and studded with palm trees.
Maya Beach
One hundred miles south of Belize City lays the virgin coastline of the Placencia Peninsula, and halfway down this peninsula lays the village of Maya Beach, regularly touted by locals as having the prettiest beaches in Belize.
Wandering through the village of Maya Beach with no shoes on down the center of the street is one of our favorite simple pleasures. From Ocean’s Edge beach, if you face north and walk, you can go for miles without seeing another man made structure. Try that anywhere else. Heading south, make sure you take the time to visit our local restaurants, including The Green Parrot, Mangoes and several others for your homem
ade Belizean meal and tropical drinks.
Tubing
After a hike through the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary, climbing into an inner tube and floating down the river seemed to us to be the perfect conclusion to a day of wonder in the rainforest.
It’s just a really relaxing way to finish off your day trip and float down a warm river looking up at the forest from a different perspective. We always see Howler Monkeys on the treetops.
Placencia
During your stay, a visit to the town of Placencia is a must. Compared to Maya Beach, it’s a bustling little village and has a fisherman’s cooperative featuring a wide selection of freshly caught seafood. We love to go to John the Bakerman for fresh cinnamon buns and of course, you must wander along the 24-inch sidewalk that was once the main route through the village and is the narrowest road in the world, according to Guinness.
Placencia is a great day trip before returning for dinner at a quiet spot in Maya Beach.
Climate
The climate is subtropical, with a brisk prevailing wind from the Caribbean Sea. The country has an annual mean temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit, and the humidity is nicely tempered by the Sea breezes.
A summer high temperature, usually never exceeds 96 degrees Fahrenheit, and winter lows are seldom below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, even at night.
Saltwater temperature varies between 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 84 degrees Fahrenheit.

Caribbean Travel Tip Safety Tips Crime Information. Most visitors to the Caribbean have a relatively safe trip. However, thievery, purse snatching, and pick pocketing do happen, particularly in cities and at beaches. There has also been an increase in violent crimes, such as rape and assault against tourists. In some places, U.S. passports and identity documents are especially attractive to thieves. Robbery of yachts is a problem in some marinas.
Here are some precautions to keep in mind:
-- Safety begins when you pack. Leave expensive jewelry, unnecessary credit cards, and anything you would hate to lose at home.
-- Use a concealed money pouch or belt for passports, cash, and other valuables.
-- To facilitate replacing a lost or stolen passport, carry two extra passport photos and a photocopy of your passport information page and other identity documents with you in a separate place from those items.
-- Do not take valuables to the beach. When possible, use the hotel safe when you go to the beach or into town.
-- When you enter a marina, register with the local government authorities.
