Akumal, Yucatan Peninsula - Paradise on the Beach
One bedroom deluxe condominium directly on the beach. Additional units can easily be arranged for friends. No phone, no TV, but daily maid service. A romantic restaurant close by which provides room service. Cousteau said Half Moon Bay at Akumal has some of the best snorkeling in the world and it is safe for children. Ten local restaurants which all provide good food.

Numerous activities including fishing, swimming, ocean and cave diving, snorkeling, shopping, cenote exploring & sailing. Akumal is a quiet restful town located twenty minutes from Tulum--the Mayan ruins located on the ocean, and is also close to other spectacular ruin sites. It is an easy one hour drive from Cancun on a four lane highway (freeway).
The condo is close to the amenities of Cancun, but out of the tourist retrace. There is also an excellent swimming beach in Akumal and dive shops and fishing charters. The beach is never crowded. As a traveler, this is my favorite spot on the planet.
Nearby Attractions:
Golf, Fishing, Wildlife Viewing, Shopping (for arts and crafts with major shopping in Cancun), Restaurants, Sightseeing, Swimming, Snorkeling/Diving (including cave diving), Boating, Sailing, Jet Skiing, Shelling, Cenote exploring--these are small lakes and sinkholes in the limestone which are filled with crystal clear water. There are a few fun bars in Akumal, and a disco located about five miles away for those looking for night life

Residence or Investments in the Caribbean
You will need a passport and visas to reside in or to conduct or start a business in the Caribbean. Although some Caribbean countries welcome retirees or others of independent means as long-term residents, requests for work permits are rarely granted. Before you travel, apply to the country's embassy or consulate in the United States to obtain a visa if you wish to reside, go into business, or work in the country.
U.S. citizens who wish to invest in the Caribbean, such as in real estate or a business, should first thoroughly investigate the company making the offer and, in addition, learn about the investment climate in the country. A good resource is the Trade Information Center of the U.S. Department of Commerce, telephone 1-800-USA-TRADE. The Center can tell you how to access the National Trade Data Bank. Among the things you can learn are how to find out if the company is registered with local authorities and how to get in touch with local trade associations. Before signing a contract for a timeshare or other real estate, you may wish to consult with a lawyer. You will need to check whether the contract contains the same safeguards as do similar contracts in the U.S., such as the retention of timeshare rights if the property is sold. You should also determine whether the builder or seller has a clear title.
