Site Information:
Kura Hulanda
Hotel Kurá Hulanda is a 80-room luxury boutique resort located within a village complex known as Project Kurá Hulanda an initiative of Jacob Gelt Dekker.
|
More Info: 80 outstanding guestrooms marry historic luxury with 21st century necessities. Furnishings are extraordinarily unique - hand-carved mahogany and teak, antiques and superb replicas and hand-woven linens from India. Delicately woven mosquito netting drapes four-poster beds providing comfort and romance. Each room features one-of-a-kind hand-painted walls by local artisans.
Beautifully carved and specifically designed standing mirrors, hand-carved bars, hanging mirrors and beds from Indonesia make a visual design connection between the guest rooms but varying patterns, colors and fabrics ensure that no two are identical.
The Indian Bridal suite will inspire couples to get married again and again just to experience this lush sterling silver surrounding. The handcrafted furniture is made of hammered sterling silver including the headboard, night tables, chairs and dressing table. Truly a suite fit for a Maharajah and Maharani.
Underground infrastructure has been installed and includes phone lines and a water system (to provide strong pressure in showers). Generators have been installed for electrical backup and will switch over and turn on in a matter of seconds should the need arise.
A sophisticated sound system (comprised of 10 zones) installed on the grounds of the hotel permits each of the courtyard areas to be suffused with music specific to the mood of the courtyard. Similar to a DMX system, the music arrives via direct satellite and is produced through built-in micro speakers.
An unobtrusive security system (manufactured in Holland) has been installed. More than 80 mini cameras are connected to a computer where the images are recorded onto a hard drive 24 hours a day.
This historic and environmental preservation project is funded by the Jade Foundation, which was established by Jacob Gelt Dekker and John Padget. Within this village complex are several outstanding properties in addition to the hotel, which comprise the project that spans 8-blocks. These properties include a 21st century conference center, the Museum Kurá Hulanda (a world-acclaimed anthropological museum) and the Jacob Gelt Dekker Institute (a widely respected organization for advanced cultural studies).
Nearby Attractions: A modern fitness center overlooking the Eco Pond Pool has been created to satisfy your exercise needs. The latest cardiovascular equipment with "cardio theater" and a fully equipped weight room is at your disposal. Personal trainers are available upon request. Situated on the second floor above the fitness center is the Hotel Kurá Hulanda spa with the most up-to-date facilities, four treatment rooms and more. Massages, manicures, pedicures and other treatments are available. Beach Hotel Kurá Hulanda’s beach club is a quick eight-minute ride from the hotel by complimentary transportation. The setting is an intimate white sand beach, perfect for a stroll or sunbathing. A natural rock formation encircles a calm bay with crystal clear Caribbean waters leading out in the ocean. The water is perfect for snorkeling or one can relax on a chaise under an umbrella. A nearby pavilion houses a shower and restrooms. Snacks and beverages are just a phone call away.
Golf Preferencial treatment and transportation to the nearby 18-hole par 72 Rocky Roquemore Golf Course helps one make an early tee time. Lushly landscaped this golf course has magnificent views of the sea, a lagoon and more --just don't take your eye off the ball.

Endeavors in the Caribbean for Active Travelers - Caribbean So you're planning your next vacation getaway to the Caribbean and you're thinking about what kind of things you want to do in this beautiful part of the world.
Food and Dining
How to Make Authentic Mexican Cerviche - Playa del Carmen First let me explain why I call it authentic Mexican cerviche. I lived in the Yucatan Peninsula over 20 years ago at the beginning of the birth of Cancun. I worked on boats every day and learned to make Mexican food dishes from the natives I worked with.
Main/General
Mexico/Explore the Mexican Mayan Rivera along the Caribbean Coast - Playa del Carmen Playa del Carmen, Mexico boasts miles of sandy, palm lined beaches, bordered by the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. Dozens of varied restaurants and hotels are available to meet any budget or taste, and a tranquil and serene atmosphere and attitude that you won't find in tourist meccas like Cancun or Cozumel.
Places to Go
About St John, U.S. Virgin Islands - St. John Of all the islands, St John is probably the most unspoiled, thanks to the contribution of one of the world's best known philanthropists, Laurence Rockefeller. Had it not been for Rockefeller's gift of money and his desire to preserve beautiful St John, the landscape would probably look more commercial, much like the other Virgin Islands.
Scuba Diving
Scuba Diving in St. Lucia - St. Lucia St Lucia is a diving paradise which offers divers wrecks, shallow reefs and a variety of marine life including turtles, nurse sharks, seahorses, angel fish, and golden spotted eels, to name only a few.
Travel & Accommodations
What's New at Tobago's Coco Reef Resort and Spa - Trinidad and Tobago For the past four days, we'd been experiencing Trinidad's Carnival, a pulsating heartbeat of humanity that winds through the streets of Port of Spain. We'd chipped, we'd shuffled, we had lost ourselves in the pounding rhythm of the Caribbean's largest annual celebration that for many serves as an annual rebirth.
Travel Tips
Mexico's Mayan Riviera has something for everyone - Playa del Carmen Playa del Carmen and the Mayan Riviera have an exceptional array of attractions and activities from the Mayan ruins at Tulum to the Playa del Carmen nightlife, you will love your Mexico vacation.
Weddings, Honeymoons & Romantic Travel

Caribbean Travel Tip Driving in the Caribbean If you plan to rent a car, be aware that most jurisdictions of the Caribbean drive on the left. The only places where you drive on the right are Aruba, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Martinique, and the Netherlands Antilles. In other places, if you are not used to driving on the left, proceed slowly and with utmost caution. You may wish to ride as a passenger for a while before trying to drive yourself.
Driving conditions and local driving patterns are different from the U.S. Many roads are narrow or winding, signs may not be in English, and in some places, domestic animals roam freely. Defensive driving is a must.
