Centrally located on Admiralty Bay, Bequia's wide and gentle harbour, Gingerbread Hotel is within a few minutes' walk of Port Elizabeth, the island's administrative centre, where you will find shopping, restaurants and the ferry dock. Five minutes in a water-taxi brings you to either Princess Margaret Beach, or Lower Bay, two of the island's finest beaches.
For more than a decade Gingerbread has been an outstandingly elegant, yet relaxed, restaurant, with a menu ranging from Caribbean to International dishes. Live, non-amplified, music adds charm several nights per week. The cafe on the bayside is a great meeting place.
The new Bequia suites, completed in 1998, offer the island's most attractive accommodation. With the sea just a few feet in front of you, the Gingerbread Restaurant on one side and the Frangipani Hotel on the other, with a dive shop and a travel agency on the premises, with kayaks, tennis, and day trips to the Grenadines waiting to tempt you, your holiday at Gingerbread is yours, simply, to enjoy.
The new Bequia Suites at Gingerbread are constructed with Brazilian greenheart, Italian tiles, and the decorative trellis-work that gives the hotel its name. The bedrooms with adjoining salon open onto a large covered terrace overlooking the bay, just a coconut tree away. On the upper storey theyare furnished with a romantic four-poster kingsize bed; those on the ground level have twin beds. There is a third bed built into everysuite.Daily maid service is provided.
Bequia's climate is close to ideal. Too far south to suffer the onslaught of major hurricanes, cooled by the tradewinds for most of the year, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 33 degrees celsius (70 to 90 degrees fahrenheit), there is little difference in climate over the year. Very little rain falls from January through April. Being a sea-oriented community cool, casual clothes are the norm.

Bequia is just seven square miles but is the largest and most northerly of the St. Vincent Grenadines, a chain of islands that trails south from the main island of St. Vincent like the tail of a kite. Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Union Island and Petit St. Vincent are all, along with a score of smaller islets, part of the country of St. Vincent & the Grenadines which is independent, but still part of the British Commonwealth.
Bequia's most notable feature is the large and inviting harbour
of Admiralty Bay which, since the seventeeth century, attract-
ed the navies of several European powers, and more recently
has exerted its charms on yachts and trading ships from around
the world. Gingerbread Hotel is located on the southeast shore
of the harbour on what is known as the Belmont Walkway.
Amenities:
Each suite has it own fully-equiped kitchen although Gingerbread's famous restaurant and a selection of other eating places are right nearby. There is a beautifully-tiled ensuite bathroom in each apartment with ample closet space and a built-in safe.

Safety Tips
Crime Information. Most visitors to the Caribbean have a relatively safe trip. However, thievery, purse snatching, and pick pocketing do happen, particularly in cities and at beaches. There has also been an increase in violent crimes, such as rape and assault against tourists. In some places, U.S. passports and identity documents are especially attractive to thieves. Robbery of yachts is a problem in some marinas.
Here are some precautions to keep in mind:
-- Safety begins when you pack. Leave expensive jewelry, unnecessary credit cards, and anything you would hate to lose at home.
-- Use a concealed money pouch or belt for passports, cash, and other valuables.
-- To facilitate replacing a lost or stolen passport, carry two extra passport photos and a photocopy of your passport information page and other identity documents with you in a separate place from those items.
-- Do not take valuables to the beach. When possible, use the hotel safe when you go to the beach or into town.
-- When you enter a marina, register with the local government authorities.
