More Info:
The Cruzan Princesse has its own large, beautifully tiled, fresh water pool with plenty of chairs and chaise lounges and a private beach for sunning. For ocean swimming and snorkeling, walk a few steps easterly toward Pelican Cove to the sandy beach where the reef ends.

CHENAY BAY on the east end has a beautiful beach. The snorkeling is great, and rafts are allowed. CANE BAY BEACH is another lovely place to spend the day. Other beaches are the HIBISCUS BEACH HOTEL, LAGRANGE BEACH CLUB, and SPRATT HALL. The latter two serve lunches after which you can relax on the beach. Another beach is HOTEL ON THE CAY, located across from Christiansted and, for the slight cost of a ferry ride, you can enjoy water sports, boat rentals and a beach bar.

When You Arrive -

Free weekly papers are useful for more information on restaurants, shopping and local events: This Week in St. Croix and The Shopper are available at the airport and in many shops.

Duty-free prices make shopping a popular pastime, with gold, jewelry, china, crystal, perfume and liquor being the best buys. Be sure to check prices before leaving home so you can do some comparison shopping. You can bring back $1200 of goods per person duty-free.

COLUMBIAN EMERALDS provides a fine array of jewelry, gold, uncut gems and watches.

LITTLE SWITZERLAND on King Street is a great place for china and crystal, while LA PERFUME CENTER generally has terrific prices on the most popular domestic and imported perfumes.

Check the supermarkets and GANNETT'S HARDWARE for liquor prices, too. You are allowed six 5ths as long as one was made in the Virgin Islands (rum or Southern Comfort).

Most of the stores are within a three-block area in Christiansted, with a large well-lighted public parking area and lots of restaurants.

Nearby Attractions:
Scuba Diving

For the certified diver, St. Croix offers many various dive sites, while resort certification courses are available at several dive shops. V.I. DIVERS, ANCHOR DIVE CENTER and DIVE ST. CROIX seem to be running the best operations at present.

Horseback Riding

PAUL AND JILL'S EQUESTRIAN STABLES can provide you the opportunity to ride through the rain forest past Danish ruins to spectacular hilltop views. Along the way you'll discover tropical fruit, mahogany, turpentine and kapok trees, coral roses, termite nests, mongeese and wild pigs.

Golf

CARAMBOLA is one of the finest 18-hole courses in the Caribbean and one of the most beautiful in the world. Covered carts are available. In season, be sure to call the starter's desk for a tee-off time (778-5638). Come for lunch and drinks even if you're not golfing. The BUCCANEER HOTEL has an excellent 18-hole course, with the ocean in view on several holes. The REEF has a 9hole executive layout.

Tennis

St. Croix has more than 50 courts, including four free public courts at Canegata Park. The BUCCANEER has eight tennis courts, including two lighted courts for night play. You can rent rackets at the pro shops and lessons are available for a reasonable fee.

Sightseeing

BUCK ISLAND is a trip nobody should miss! This national park boasts a beautiful beach and one of the most beautiful underwater gardens in the world. Snorkeling could not be better! Non-swimmers will enjoy the glass bottom boat trips.

Sailboats and motorboat excursions usually supply the snorkeling gear and cold drinks. All-day sails will also supply lunch, if you desire.

The TERRERO, which sails from Green Key, is highly recommended-Captain Heinz supplies a wonderful sail with an excellent crew. The TERRERO also offers moonlight cruises. Another boat, the REEF QUEEN, leaves twice daily from the dock in Christiansted.

The WHIM GREATHOUSE near Fredricksted is a restored sugar plantation, with a museum and lovely gift shop on the grounds. The BOTANICAL GARDENS is also a nice place to visit. Other sights of interest are the TROPICAL RAIN FOREST, the HISTORIC FORT CHRISTIANSVAREN, DANISH COLONIAL BUILDINGS, the RUM FACTORY, and the LEAP MAHOGANY SHOP, located midway through the rain forest, where you can puchase beautiful wooden objects.

You can also enjoy HOUSE AND GARDEN TOURS, usually held in February or March, the KNIGHTS OF MALTA RUINS at Judith's Fancy and the SALT RIVER BAY, where Columbus landed in 1493.

Amenities:
Maid service will have the unit cleaned and stocked with fresh linens for your arrival and will clean and do the laundry when you leave. If you desire additional maid service during your stay, please arrange it with the managers when you arrive.

For your convenience, several coin-operated washers and dryers are located on-site behind the apartments (save your quarters!). The laundry area is near the utility sheds, where the garbage cans are located.

About St John, U.S. Virgin Islands About St John, U.S. Virgin Islands - St. John
Of all the islands, St John is probably the most unspoiled, thanks to the contribution of one of the world's best known philanthropists, Laurence Rockefeller. Had it not been for Rockefeller's gift of money and his desire to preserve beautiful St John, the landscape would probably look more commercial, much like the other Virgin Islands.

Caribbean Travel Tip

Entry and Exit Requirements
Entering: Every island in the Caribbean has its own entry requirements. Most countries allow you to visit for up to two or three months if you show proof of U.S. citizenship and a return or onward ticket. Some countries, however, require that you have a valid passport. If you are arriving from an area infected with yellow fever, many Caribbean countries require you to have a certificate of vaccination against yellow fever. Some countries have an airport departure tax of up to $25. For authoritative information on a country's entry and exit requirements and on its customs and currency regulations, contact its embassy, consulate, or tourist office in the United States. Returning - Caution! Make certain that you can return to the United States with the proof of citizenship that you take with you. Although some Caribbean countries may allow you to enter with only a birth certificate, U.S. Immigration requires that you document both your U.S. citizenship and identity when you reenter the United States. The best document to prove your U.S. citizenship is a valid U.S. passport. Other documents of U.S. citizenship include an expired U.S. passport, a certified copy of your birth certificate, a Certificate of Naturalization , a Certificate of Citizenship , or a Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. Citizen. To prove your identity, either a valid driver's license or a government identification card that includes a photo or a physical description is acceptable. If you lose or have your U.S. passport stolen while overseas, report it immediately to the local police and the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. A lost or stolen birth certificate or driver's license cannot be replaced outside the United States. There are several countries, most notably Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, and Jamaica, where airlines have consistently refused to board American citizens with insufficient proof of U.S. citizenship. The resulting delays can be inconvenient as well as expensive.
