Site Information:
Oualie Beach Hotel
The Oualie Beach Resort is right on the beach and has just 32 rooms located in gingerbread Caribbean style cottages a mere 40 to 60 feet from the beach.
|
More Info: All the rooms face the beach with breath taking views of sunset and the neighbouring Island of St. Kitts just 2 miles across the water. The legendary Green Flash is a common sight as the last edge of the sun dips beneath the horizon.
Oualie bay is a calm, shallow, sheltered cove. Children and the less efficient swimmers feel safe and at ease in the water.
The rooms are spaciously scattered along the beach in single and two storey Gingerbread Cottages that reflect the traditional Caribbean style architecture of the Island. All rooms have large, cool screened verandas offering uninterrupted views of the beach and neighbouring island of St Kitts. The three room classifications are Deluxe, Studio and Premier
The restaurant is purposely casual, so relax, you do not have to dress up fancy just to have dinner! Our Chef Ricky serves excellent and affordable West Indian and Continental cuisine with the catch of the day usually landed right at the Oualie dock, thanks to the game fishing boats based here.
Nearby Attractions: On site are most of the activities that one would normally associate with a much larger resort. These include snorkelling, spa treatments, scuba, windsurfing, mountain bikes, ocean kayaks, sailing, game fishing, car rentals and guest email access. Our staff can arrange for nearby rainforest hikes, golf, tennis and horseback riding.
Saturday evening is Caribbean night, with a Nevisian string band. Tuesday night is the "Oualie Beach Boys band," an eclectic group of acoustic guitars and homemade instruments that actually sound superb. Guests are actively encouraged to join the band unless totally incapable of rhythm!
While many of our guests enjoy doing nothing more than stretching out on our beach, with a cool drink, a good book, and the cool breezes, there are also a lot of other activities to partake in. One of the reasons our guests return over and over again is because we offer so much to do without having to go anywhere.
There is an activities center on site which offers scuba diving, mountain biking, snorkeling, sunfish sailing, sport fishing boats, windsurfing school, hobie cats, kayaks and day sailing adventures on yachts and catamarans. Spa treatments are also available.A mini conference room is on property for small groups of up to twenty people.
The hotel can arrange rain forest hikes, horseback trail rides, tennis, golf, car rentals, historic and island tours, as well as shopping trips to neighbouring islands. Baby-sitting services can also be arranged.
TUESDAY NIGHTS This is an amazing evening! Food wise it is usually BBQ surf & turf. Usually lobster is on the menu. More importantly Tuesday is the Oualie Beach Boys Band night. This is an ecclectic bunch made up of local residents oualie staff and whatever guests have some musical talent. As a consequence every Tuesday is different and fascinating. The powerful thread that holds it all together is the local musician "snowflakes" whose guitar playing and vocals provide a solid backbone for the rest of us. If you are real lucky even the Managing Director of Oualie may pick up his beat up old spanish accoustic guitar and roll out a few numbers from his hippy days!
SATURDAY NIGHT This is the evening that features the traditional string band "the humming birds" Mr. Hamilton is a legend on the Island and has trained up many young people to keep this traditional form of Nevisian music alive and well. Godd dancing music played mainly on home made instuments. Check out the tiny but strident "banjo" or the long tube called the "bahoe" that is blowed to provide a deep base.
SUPER SUNDAY
Usually the last Sunday in the month brings out the Steel pan music and various beach activities including volley ball, kayak races, coconut shell sail boats races or the greazy pole. Lots of family fun.
Amenities: Deluxe: Situated 40-60 feet from the beach, the Deluxe rooms are fully equipped with all the amenities you can expect from a four star hotel. These include air-conditioning, fridge/mini bar, iron and board, hairdryer, shower, alarm clock/radio, cable TV, coffee maker and electronic safe. These rooms offer a choice of either one queen sized mahogany four poster bed or two double beds.
Studio: There are only three of these rooms at Oualie. They are equipped similarly to the Deluxe rooms with the exception that they have full kitchen facilities and all have one mahogany queen sized four-poster bed. The studios all have doors that can connect to adjacent Deluxe rooms to form suites that are ideal for families.
Premier: These spacious rooms are larger than the Deluxe rooms and are luxuriously appointed with all mahogany furniture including a king-sized four-poster bed. The rooms have the same amenities as available in the Deluxe rooms but also have a VCR. The huge bathrooms have a "his and her's " double sink granite vanity and shower.
