On the tiny Caribbean island destination called Tobago there is a little legend - the charming small hotel and restaurant known simply as the Kariwak.
For visitors to the island and the people who live here (called Tobagonians) the Kariwak hotel, its restaurant and staff are as legendary as Robinson Crusoe himself.
In the realm of small hotels of the Caribbean, the Kariwak has carved a distinctive niche with its award winning 2 acre garden bursting with tropical shrubs, foliage and flowering trees filled with bird song, dominated by the thatched roof ajoupa and its teak floor ... the venue for TaiChi, yoga, gentle stretching exercises, Buddhist meditation sessions and similar holistic activities.
The Kariwak kitchen is supplied with abundant fresh herbs from the garden, those same herbs are lovingly transformed into delicious Caribbean meals which are served with a friendly smile in the open air restaurant .....
Nearby Attractions: Our activites include yoga, tai-chi and gentle morning stretch combining both yoga and gi gong. The classes take place in the beautiful thatched teak-floored ajoupa and are complimentary to all our guests. Whether an expert or a beginner, the feedback from all is that the morning classes are a delightful way to start the day. Not only are the classes refreshing, but one is surrounded by the chatter of birds and gentle water sounds from ponds and fountains.
Amenities: Conference Facilities: Four areas are available for groups of between 30-70 persons.
The small tiled and air-conditioned conference/board room seats 15 persons meeting-room style or 30 persons theatre style.
A thatched roof open-air Ajoupa with a teak floor is restricted to users wearing no shoes. It holds 75 persons theatre style. Two thatched roof open-air rooms with tiled floors are available for between 30 persons meeting-room style and up to 70 persons theatre style.

Caribbean Travel Tip Jungle & Rainforest Treking If you plan to walk into the jungle make sure you know what you are doing. Carry a GPS and know how to use it. A compass will help the experienced explorer but if you just bought it and expect to enter the jungle and knock about then you may find yourself in deep trouble.
If you have to venture into the bush then please follow these instructions:
- Tell somebody where you are going.
- Bring lots of water.
- Make sure your compass works.
- Mark your trail.
- Be visually aware and remember landmarks.
- Check to see where the sun is when you enter the bush then check your watch to see what time it is, make regular checks to orient yourself to the movement of the sun.
