More Info: Set high in the green hills of Tobago, Windy Edge is the place to relax in comfort, unwind, and enjoy the laid-back pace of Caribbean life. It is a secluded family house in a wonderful location with panoramic views over both the Caribbean and the Atlantic. The Japanese influence apparent in its design helps to provide a calm peaceful atmosphere. The garden is cultivated round the house and pool, and left as forest lower down the hill making a small wildlife sanctuary. As well as an abundance of different birds and butterflies, in the forest there are iguanas, salamanders, lizards and squirrels, and one of our guests even saw a capuchin monkey. At night the frogs and cicadas call to each other creating a wonderfully exotic ambience. The present house was built in the 1960’s on the old Concordia cocoa estate, by a former US ambassador to Japan who retired to Tobago after many years in the Far East. The old plantation house must have been built here in the late 18th or early 19th century from the evidence of bits and pieces of china and pottery we have dug up in the garden which have been dated in the UK as 1800 -1850.
Nearby Attractions: Tobago, a little, tranquil island 21 miles northeast of Trinidad and part of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago was connected to the South American mainland thousands of years ago. The island is an Eden that tourism has only just begun to touch……………… Reefs and rainforests, lagoons and waterfalls are home to some 210 species of bird and 123 different butterflies. There are some 30 reefs surrounding the island where all manner of fish and underwater flora abound.’
Tobago is a well-known diving location: there are Manta Rays and giant coral in the Angel Reef off Little Tobago, and the famous Bucco Reef off Pigeon Point hosts a multitude of fish and underwater gardens. There are several reputable dive schools on the island. The Mount Irvine Golf course is a well-established venue for international competitions, and enjoyable for players of any standard, with Mount Irvine Bay adjacent for a cooling dip after the 18th hole. Tobago now boasts a brand-new 18-hole golf course at the Hilton hotel which is proving popular with the many enthusiasts who visit the island. There will come a time, when you want to leave your hammock and indulge in a little exploration, perhaps some scuba-diving or golf or maybe take in some nightlife. Windy Edge is perfectly positioned to allow you to visit all parts of Tobago with ease.
