Enjoy a wonderful, low cost Caribbean vacation at our "House in the Hills" (Casa de Loma) on the beautiful East Coast of Puerto Rico. Our three bedroom vacation home comfortably accommodates parties of up to six people in a modern, cheerful, quiet, and relaxed rural setting.
Convenient to beautiful beaches, world class golf courses, the mountainous El Yunque rain forest--the only rain forest in US National Forest System, day trips to remote islands, resorts & casinos, world class snorkeling and scuba diving, as well as the vibrant and historic city of San Juan, "Casa de Loma" can make your dream vacation affordable!
Casa de Loma is in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico (See Map). Las Piedras is a suburban community high in the hills just west of Humacao. The house is a forty-five minute drive from San Juan's International airport. It is situated more than 1000 feet above sea level, overlooking striking vistas, including rugged mountain ridges, pasture lands and neighborhoods of Caribbean/Spanish architecture. The surroundings are lush, verdant and tropical. Palms, citrus trees and yucca plants abide. Flowering bougainvillea, poinsettia, flamboyant and hibiscus color the hillsides. On a clear morning, as you descend the hill to town, your views will include spectacular vistas of the rainforest summits.

Puerto Rico beaches and many other tourist sites are easily reached from Casa de Loma. You can take day trips to any part of the island and still have plenty of time to return home for a relaxing dinner and a good night's sleep. When you stay at Casa de Loma, you have access to many beaches and water sports activities. Famous for scuba diving and snorkeling, Puerto Rico is also a destination for surfing, deep sea fishing, sail boat charters, and ocean kayaking. We have not researched the many opportunities available, but we provide here a tourism board list of water sports companies. Locally, Palmas del Mar offers a wide range of activities from its harbor. The town of Fajardo and the near by Marina Puerto del Rey offer a full range of activities and services.

Residence or Investments in the Caribbean
You will need a passport and visas to reside in or to conduct or start a business in the Caribbean. Although some Caribbean countries welcome retirees or others of independent means as long-term residents, requests for work permits are rarely granted. Before you travel, apply to the country's embassy or consulate in the United States to obtain a visa if you wish to reside, go into business, or work in the country.
U.S. citizens who wish to invest in the Caribbean, such as in real estate or a business, should first thoroughly investigate the company making the offer and, in addition, learn about the investment climate in the country. A good resource is the Trade Information Center of the U.S. Department of Commerce, telephone 1-800-USA-TRADE. The Center can tell you how to access the National Trade Data Bank. Among the things you can learn are how to find out if the company is registered with local authorities and how to get in touch with local trade associations. Before signing a contract for a timeshare or other real estate, you may wish to consult with a lawyer. You will need to check whether the contract contains the same safeguards as do similar contracts in the U.S., such as the retention of timeshare rights if the property is sold. You should also determine whether the builder or seller has a clear title.
