Anguilla is a British West Indies Island in the Caribbean, north of St. Martin which prides itself on its magnificent 33 private beaches and warm hospitable people. It is a quiet little island, with fabulous restaurants and fascinating shipwrecks to explore underwater. They are also known for some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean. It is the perfect vacation for those who truly wish to get away from it all and just surround themselves with the beauty of nature, bask in the warm sun and swim in crystal clear "electric blue" ocean.
What to Expect:
- Climate: The average daytime peak temperature is 83 Degrees Fahrenheit (29 Degrees Centigrade) with little seasonal variation. Rainfall averages 36 inches (910 mm) per annum.
- Government: British Crown Colony. Westminster-style system of government with a Governor, an Executive Council and a House of Assembly.
- Currency: Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$) U.S. currency generally accepted throughout the island.
-Language: English, with a distinct Anguillan accent.
- Electricity: 120/240 Volts AC (60 cycles) - same as that provided in the U.S.A.
- Communications: A range of communication services including card phones, payphones and internet services are provided by cable & wireless.
- Time Zone: Atlantic Standard Time (4 hours behind Britain, 1 hour ahead of the U.S. Eastern Seaboard).
Nearby Attractions:
The most northerly isle of the British Leewards, Anguilla, measures just 16 miles by 3, and boasts some of the Caribbean's most spectacular beaches. There are miles and miles of these beautiful stretches of blindingly white supersoft sands, set against an enticing electric blue sea. But don't expect to find crowds here ... Anguilla beaches are strictly for escapists.
