More Info:
Villa Mafolie, with a truly spectacular 180° panoramic view of the harbor and town below, is located in prestigious Estate Mafolie. By day, an endless parade of cruise ships, yachts, and sailboats come and go. At night, the lighted ships sparkle, creating unparalleled ambiance. Though located in a secluded jungle setting, Villa Mafolie is just minutes away from the Danish shopping town of Charlotte Amalie and the famed Magens Bay.

Of course, Villa Mafolie is also ideally situated as a staging ground for jaunts to remote islands. You can charter a boat or catch the ferry to St. John or the British Virgin Islands, which are but minutes away. Yet St. Thomas itself offers fine restaurants, nightlife, and shopping that these other islands do not.
The weather in St. Thomas is enjoyable all year long. Average temperatures range from 82°F in the winter months to 88°F in the late summer. Monthly rainfall averages from 1.6 inches (Feb.) to 5.8 inches (Sept.).

Villa Mafolie - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is a rental car necessary? A rental car or minivan is highly recommended. All major rental car services - Hertz, Avis, Budget, etc. are provided at the St. Thomas airport. You must make these reservations in advance. Reliance upon cabs is not recommended, as they are expensive and not always reliable. Note: Driving is on the left.

2. Does Villa Mafolie provide maid service? One day of mid-week maid service is provided. Additional maid service may be requested in advance and paid for at an additional cost.

3. Are babysitters or cooks available? In most cases, babysitters and cooks can be arranged with sufficient advance notice.

4. Where are the nearest grocery stores? Two full-size supermarkets (Pueblo) are available. One, after exiting the airport and the second, to the east of town, about a ten-minute drive from the villa.

5. How do we find our way to the villa from the airport? A simple, easy-to-read map will be provided to you. The drive is but a short 10 to 15 minutes from the airport through town and up the hill.

6. Who will meet me at the villa? The villa caretaker or her assistant will meet you at the villa. It is important that A) a call be made to the caretaker should any of your flights be delayed and B) that the caretaker be called immediately upon your arrival at the St. Thomas airport to alert her that you will be arriving within the next half hour or so.

7. Can you call directly to the U.S. from the villa? The phone system is clear and directly linked to the U.S. mainland. Local calls are included in your rental. All long-distance calls must be charged to your calling card or credit card.

Nearby Attractions:
MAGENS BAY: One mile behind Estate Mafolie - rated by National Geographic as one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world. Snorkel for rent, beach restaurant and bar.

ST.JOHN, TRUNK BAY, & CINNAMON BAY:(Via Cruz Bay on the Red Hook Ferry) Are just a 20 minute drive (to the ferry) followed by a 20 minute ferry ride, $3.00 each way. Take an island tour or rent a car or van for the day. Stop at Trunk Bay, Caneel Bay, Hawk's Nest Bay, or Cinnamon Bay. Spend half a day to a day. Back to Cruz Bay and over to St. Thomas. Or visit the Westin Resort - an outstanding luxury facility with first class beach & landscaping. St. John, one of the most beautiful Caribbean islands.

CORAL WORLD - On the way to Red Hook in the morning, stop at Coki Beach nearby and see "Coral World" -- underwater aquarium, fish and coral installation, 12 ft. sharks, barracuda and fish of every variety.

SCUBA DIVING: COKI BEACH - Next door to Coral World - though the beach is primitive looking, it has some of the best sea life snorkeling and scuba diving in the Caribbean. Fish are everywhere, in as little as 6 ft. of water.

IF YOU ONLY HAVE TIME TO SEE THE ABOVE FOUR ATTRACTIONS, THE TRIP WAS WORTH IT!
SHOPPING & DAYTIME DINING: See the scores of duty-free shops one morning or afternoon. Eat lunch at one of the town's restaurants. Suggested are Hotel 1829 or Hervé or Café Marisol, all on Government Hill, Alexander's in Frenchtown, or Café Amici, Fagioli Ristorante, Green House, the Hard Rock Café, or Virgilio's, all in the town's main shopping district.

DINING IN THE EVENING: Eat in the evening at Bluebeard's Castle (The Terrace Restaurant or Banana Tree Grill) or Hotel Mafolie - both have outstanding views. Also try Sib's Mountain Bar or Blackbeard's Inn and Restaurant on Mafolie Hill. For luxury dining, Hotel1829 is outstanding. For excellent American/Caribbean dining try Craig and Sally's or the Point at Villa Olga in Frenchtown; for casual dining, try Tickles in Crown Bay.

ST. THOMAS BEACHES: Go to Magens Bay, Coki, Pineapple, Sapphire, Morningstar, Sugar Bay, Ritz Carlton, or the Elysian beach for scuba and snorkel, or just plain sunbathing. If weather is only partly sunny and mountains tend to be shaded, sun generally predominates at Frenchman's Reef, Morningstar Beach or the Ritz Carlton Beach.

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS - SAN JUAN - ST. JOHN: Hop over to St. John (Westin Resort - greater Cruz Bay), very beautiful.....Or Tortola, Virgin Gorda (the world famous Baths), or Jost Van Dyke, or the caves of Norman Island, all in the British Virgin Islands, even more beautiful.... Or fly to San Juan for gambling or to visit spectacular Old San Juan. See ferry or plane schedules. 1/2 hour to one hour trips.

Caribbean Travel Tip

Preparation for Your Trip
Start Early. If a passport is required for you to enter the country where you are planning to travel, apply for it as soon as possible. Learn about the countries you plan to visit. Before departing, read up on the culture and people for the places you will travel. As you travel, keep abreast of local news coverage. If you are in an area experiencing civil unrest or a natural disaster, if you will be staying more than two weeks in an area, or if you are going to a place where communications are poor, you are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Registration takes only a few moments, and it may be invaluable in case of an emergency. Remember to leave a detailed itinerary and the numbers of your passport or other citizenship documents with a friend or relative in the United States. For up-to-date travel information on any country in the world that you plan to visit, obtain the Department of State's Consular Information Sheet. This covers topics such as entry regulations, the crime and security situation, drug penalties, and location of the nearest U.S. embassy, consulate or consular agency. The Department also issues Travel Warnings and Public Announcements. A Travel Warning advises travelers not to go to a country because of dangerous conditions and/or U.S. government's ability to assist a U.S. citizen in distress there is severely limited. A Public Announcement is issued as a means to disseminate information quickly about relatively short-term and/or trans-national conditions which would pose significant risks to the security of American travelers.
