Sandwood Villas
Your own private 2 bedroom, 2 bath with Kitchenette villa overlooking the second largest barrier reef in the world.

More Info: If you plan to cook your meals, bring groceries, snacks, etc. We have 5 small grocery stores in Xcalak and we have a grocery truck at our door 4 times a week. Purified water is provided in each villa. Staple groceries, pop, and beer are provided at low prices. Meals at Sandwood in consist of delicious local and American fare. Breakfast features fresh tropical fruits and juices with homemade breads and tortillas in the Palapa. The dinner menu offers fresh seafood, chicken, pork, fish, conch, and lobster our specialty. Lunch and snacks are available. All meals are served in the Palapa or your villa. Our bar offers an assortment of local beers, sodas, wines and spirits. Our 24 hour electricity is provided by solar energy backed up by a generator. We are an eco-tourist resort - no hair dryers or high wattage appliances please. Diving, snorkeling, swimming and fishing are only minutes from our sandy beach with numerous coral heads and beautiful tropical fish in no more than 8 feet of water out in front of the villas. Sting rays, lobsters, eels, turtles, octopus, groupers and barracuda are abundant. Night snorkeling is spectacular. There is excellent fishing in the lagoon behind us, and inside and outside the barrier reef in front of Sand-Wood.
Nearby Attractions: Xcalak dive sites cover approximately fifteen miles of the reef and include include coral gardens, canyons, chimneys and walls.
Twenty miles offshore is the Banco Chinchorro. An atoll 25 miles long and 10 miles wide. It consists of three separate island groups and is alive with multicolored coral, giant sponges, fish, lobster and conch. There are also shipwrecks to explore. Visibility is normally in excess of 100 feet.
Banco Chinchorro is so large you could not possibly dive it all in a lifetime, but you will probably be the only divers there.
DIVE XTC arranges all of our dive trips to the Chinchorro Banks. Chinchorro trips are priced at about $150.00 usd per person for a 3 tank full day trip with lunch and beverages provided.
Your local Divemasters / Divers being picked up infront of Sandwood / XTC divers boat and dock.
For the snorkeler, the numerous coral heads offer fantastic vistas of tropical fish and living coral. You will see a variety of coral, sea fans, tropical fish and more. We keep snorkel gear at the resort, but feel free to bring your own.
We also have 3 Kayaks two 1 person and a one two person Kayaks for your use.
If your interested in fishing our backwater lagoons have large tarpon and snook, our shallow water flats for bonefish and permit, of fishing the reef for a variety of snapper, grouper and barracuda. The hidden inland lagoons, gin-clear flats, and the bay abound with bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, snapper and barracuda...off shore-snapper, grouper, kings, dorado, sailfish, marlin, barracuda and more...off the dock - mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, yellowtail.
We have fishing boats for lagoon and bay fishing, and use local boats and guides for off-shore. Please bring your own fishing gear if you plan to fish.
Excursions..... San Pedro Belize C.A....Just a relatively short boat ride from our dock is the village of San Pedro, Belize, Central America. These trips are priced at about $40.00 usd per person.
Amenities: Each villa is 900 square feet and has a 23 foot by 14 foot living room, dining area, kitchen with stove, refrigerator, and dishes. There are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in each villa with hot water showers. One bedroom includes a double bed and the other 2 twin beds. Ceiling fans and regular fans are located in each room. Maid service is provided daily. You may cook your own meals, eat in our new Palapa restaurant or eat in one of the fine restaurants in Xcalak which is only 15 minutes away.
