More Info: This small Belizean resort is owned and operated by Kitty Fox and Ran Villanueva. The resort accommodations are built of tropical hardwoods in the Caribbean style.
Belize is a small English-speaking country nestled on the Central American coast of the Caribbean Sea. Entering into its second decade of independence, Belize is an excellent example of a young, peaceful democracy. Belize is noted for its natural beauty: unspoiled rivers and rainforests, abundant wildlife, countless Mayan archeological sites, and the world's second largest barrier reef.
The Placencia peninsula in southern Belize offers miles of natural beach, numerous coral-encrusted cayes, a rich mangrove lagoon and road access from the mainland, making the area an ideal base for exploring both the Caribbean Sea and the Belizean jungle.

Nearby Attractions: Snorkeling. An experience that should not be missed! Each of our cayes has its own unique coral garden, with a reef life so bountiful that even a non-swimmer can enjoy the wonders of our underwater world! Our licensed local guides will swim with you to help identify our abundant marine wildlife.
Kitty’s Place Tours All tours are led by licensed local guides. Most prices are based on 4 or more adults. All tours are subject to an 8% sales tax.
SNORKEL Snorkel tours leave at 9 am and return by 4 pm. Our guides will snorkel with you and are trained to teach beginners. Life jackets, water and ice are always on board.
Laughingbird Caye National Park and French Louie Caye: This is a very popular full day tour. The first stop is Laughingbird Caye National Park, an excellent snorkeling site for the beginner There is plenty of colorful reef right off the coral beach. The inner reef offers protected waters, a large variety of soft and hard corals and a multitude of tropical fish. French Louie Caye, our private mangrove island, is the second stop. Here you will find outstanding snorkeling: a pristine coral garden surrounds the island, as well as the fascinating underwater mangrove jungle, the “nursery of the sea”. Or - just relax and grab a hammock.
Silk Cayes and the Barrier Reef: These all day snorkel tours usually go to the Silk Cayes, three small coral cayes located on top of the main barrier reef. Occasionally the tour may go to Round Caye, Pompion Caye, or Ranguana Caye. Snorkeling on the outer reef is more dramatic than the inner reefs— bigger walls, larger fish and a more ocean ecology. These cayes are coral sand cayes with beautiful beaches. It takes approximately one hour to reach these destinations. You will need to order a box lunch. Tour includes snorkel gear and lunch.
SCUBA SCUBA Diving and SCUBA Instruction: Professional local divemasters are always ready to explore untouched cayes, dramatic walls and virgin reefs. Some of our best diving is inside the main barrier reef, offering a variety of protected dive sites. Kitty’s Place does not operate its own SCUBA Dive Shop but we can book day tours, night dives and SCUBA instruction for you as well as provide information on recommended local dive operators. Rates include two tanks, weights and lunch.
SPORT-FISHING Fly Fishing, Spin Casting, Trolling, Deep Sea Fishing and General Fishing: Placencia has been called the “Permit Capital of the World”. If you love fishing let us find you the right guide to take you to our flats, lagoons, rivers and reefs in search of permit, tarpon, bonefish and snook, as well as barracuda, jack, kingfish, wahoo, bonito, tuna, grouper, snapper—an endless variety of fish that you may find on your line! Some rental fishing gear is available but the serious angler should bring his own. Remember to order a box lunch.
JUNGLE TOURS Wear long pants and good walking shoes that can get wet. Bring a swimsuit, hat, insect repellent, binoculars and a bird book.
Monkey River Jungle Walk: A half-hour boat ride takes you to Monkey River Town at the mouth of a lush tropical river. Here we pick up your Monkey River guide who will lead you on the jungle trails. If you choose you may simply motor slowly up the river and do a quiet float downstream, observing the abundant wildlife along the river bank. Howler monkeys are usually sighted, as well as iguanas, crocodiles, turtles and many species of birds. Lunch is scheduled at Alice’s Restaurant. The return to Placencia takes you through a maze of mangroves and lagoons, where you may see manatees. Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary: The world’s first sanctuary created specifically for the elusive jaguar. You will register at Maya Center, a picturesque Mayan village where you may visit a Mayan crafts shop. Then a beautiful jungle road leads to the preserve where you will hike rainforest trails with your naturalist guide. Birders, bring your binoculars! One tour operator offers an invigorating tube float down the river. On other tours you climb to a beautiful waterfall for a cool swim. Nimli Punit, Lubaantun and Blue Creek: Explore our Mayan culture of yesterday and today! Take a boat across the lagoon, where you will meet your van and licensed guide. The first stop is Nimli Punit, a small ruin famous for it’s stelae. On some tours you will then travel to the Mayan village of Blue Creek for an adventurous hiking and caving experience. Other tours proceed to Lubaantun, where the famous crystal skull was found, then on to a Mayan village where you have lunch.
Xunantunich Ruins and The Blue Hole: Enjoy the scenic ride through the Maya Mountains via the Hummingbird Highway. Stand in awe as you observe the wonders of the ancient Maya world. Xunantunich has “El Castillo” one of the tallest buildings in Belize. This pyramid rises 130’ above the jungle canopy, offering a spectacular view of the Cayo District and Guatemala. Enjoy lunch at a local San Ignacio restaurant and on the trip home cool of with a swim at the crystal clear Blue Hole (a deep pool formed where an underground river joins a sinkhole - not the famous dive site.) Bring your snorkel mask for a better view of this natural wonder. SPA SERVICES Massage: Treat yourself to a relaxing massage in your room! Our talented massage therapists are trained in Swedish, deep tissue and Shiatsu techniques so you are assured of the right touch for your body.
ISLAND CAMPING French Louie Caye: French Louie Caye is our small private island 8 miles offshore, featuring exquisite coral gardens and a fascinating mangrove ecology with a multitude of tropical fish. The caye was once used as a local fishing camp and for the past few years has offered camping and cabins for tourists. Hurricane Iris damaged the structures on the land, but the underwater world looks better than ever—it seems that Hurricane Iris gave the reef a good, cleansing rinse! We are currently rebuilding the caye’s infrastructure. At the present time we have built a watchman’s house and replaced the picnic tables and hammocks.
Scuba. Our professionally-trained local guides are always ready to explore untouched cayes, dramatic walls and virgin reefs. Some of our best diving is inside the main barrier reef, offering a variety of protected dive sites.
Sport-Fishing. Placencia is a paradise for the light-tackle fisherman seeking tarpon, snook, bonefish and the elusive permit. Trolling and deep-sea fishing are also available. We have excellent local guides; the serious angler should bring his own tackle.
Lagoon Kayaking. Explore the rich lagoon ecology of mangrove and manatee. Paddle our new kayak nature trails to see a variety of water birds and orchids.
Birding. The "Placencia Peninsula Bird Checklist" has 97 species listed. More need to be added. Enjoy an early morning birding session from the restaurant veranda.
Jungle Tours. Visit the Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserve and hike the rain forest trails to hidden water falls. Or take a boat ride to Monkey River Town, where a jungle river float will take you to howler monkeys, turtles, iguanas, parrots, toucans and other rainforest wildlife.
Mayan Ruins. To the south are several small Mayan archeological sites (Nimli Punit, Lubaantun, Uxbenka). A day trip to these ruins also includes a visit to one of the local Mayan villages to experience the living Mayan culture of today.
Amenities: Because of a special relationship we have with International Air Carriers, we are able to offer you deeply discounted (wholesale) airfare to Kitty's Place Beach Resort. Your request will be personally researched by a live agent, insuring the best possible ticket price.
