More Info:
Here you are in a Central American country, headquarters of the MUNDO MAYA Secretariat in 1998, while at the same time situated on a tropical island in the Western Caribbean Sea, safely protected by the longest living Barrier Reef in the Western Hemisphere. Caye Caulker is traditionally a fishing village with a population of approximately a thousand residents of mainly Spanish and Maya Indian descent. In days gone by, some of these residents moved here seeking refuge from the War of the Castes in neighboring Mexico. Today many worldwide tourists retrace those refugees footsteps escaping the tourist traps of our overpopulated neighbors in order to visit us and explore uninhabited and virgin attractions.

From Belize Odyssey Resort you may experience the best of both worlds - THE REEF & RAINFOREST. A short boat ride or affordable regional flight will take you to exotic remains of the ancient Maya culture where historical monuments may be viewed, climbed, studied or photographed. Nearby, the beauty of the reef and the sea may also be explored and enjoyed by all. We conduct group excursions or arrange customized trips to virtually any attraction.

The atmosphere is like a breath of fresh air blowing in from the Caribbean Sea, keeping the temperature around 80º virtually all the time. The island is generally cooled by a prevailing easterly sea-breeze, with no air pollution or acid rain. The Caribbean Sea in front of the resort, as in all Belizean waters, is rich with all kinds of marine life including fish, conch and lobster due to our second longest living reef in the world. Mangrove wetlands behind the resort provide healthy and interesting wildlife nurseries for various species of fish, birds and crocodiles.

Our spacious waterfront property spreads over 4 acres. Hotel Rooms are housed in two main two-story buildings of pressure treated and kiln dried lumber to ensure interior coolness while blending in our tropical landscape. Our property is attractively fenced to maximize the security of our guests while enhancing the resort's aesthetics.

Our modern hotel rooms are air-conditioned, with daily maid service, balcony, queen-size bed, private bath, and hot water. All rooms have single-hung screened windows which may be optionally opened upwards in the event you prefer to enjoy natural tropical sea breeze instead.

Our 300 foot marina pier is located on the waterfront where you will board our boats and embark on exciting underwater adventures and water-sports.

Water-sports equipment rental is readily available. Explore the village barefeet or on rental golf cars used as taxis. Enjoy unlimited sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, or fishing on our property and dock.

Optional activities on the island may include windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling at various locations on the main barrier reef, boat-diving at world-famous dive sites, light tackle fishing in shallow water and sandy flats for tarpon, bonefish, permit & snook. Reef fishing for bottom fish such as snapper and grouper or blue water fishing for marlin, sailfish, king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, wahoo, barracuda, dolphin (dorado), jacks, bonito, tuna, etc.

Non-divers and non-fishermen feel equally at home at our resort and are welcome to take short and exciting daytrips. There is snorkeling at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve nearby, or exploring the village life, local arts and crafts of the souvenir shops as well as other nearby cayes. A RESOURCE CENTER of the Caye Caulker branch of the BELIZE TOURISM INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION is located next door to our resort providing cultural presentations, slide shows and lectures about our local culture, customs, wildlife and other attractions by appointment.

Our beach dining facility is a spacious round shape thatched roof Palapa Restaurant and Cocktail for exclusive relaxation and enjoyment of hotel guests. Favorite menu choices normaly include succulent seafood specialties such as freshly caught whole red snapper, conch or lobster according to seasonal availability.

Nearby Attractions:
Fantastic light tackle or blue water fishing is always available. Around the main reef you can enjoy barracuda, snapper, and grouper. Around mangrove cayes and sandy flats you can experience exciting bonefish, tarpon, and permit. Blue water fishing provides seasonal bill-fish as well as all-year-round Barracuda, King Mackerel, Wahoo, Dolphin, Bonito, Jack, and Tuna.

Go swimming all day or sunbathe to your heart's delight, but remember to bring along adequate sunscreen lotion. Beach comb along the islands seashore. Hike into the mangrove wetlands at the southern end of the Caye or visit the BTIA Resource Center for spectacular slide shows, presentations and lectures about interesting Caye Caulker ecosystems, flora and fauna, local culture, and natural history.

You may rent an electric golf cart, bicycle, windsurfer, kayak or walk bare feet in swimsuit all over the island.

Dine on tasty Caye Caulker cuisine and enjoy refreshing tropical cocktails at our exotic SOUTH BEACH GRILL where fresh succulent seafood is the most popular choice on the menu.

Amenities:
Our ocean front features includes 18 comfortable hotel rooms on four spacious acres.

Our modern rooms are air-conditioned with expansive balcony, daily maid service, queen size beds, private bathroom and hot water.

Tobago's pace of life is unhurried. One can bask in the sunshine on a deserted beach or make one's way through the small hilly town of Scarborough - Tobago's capital. Tranquil days turn into balmy nights with spectacular displays from the sun as it sets. The island of Tobago and the tiny satellite islands dotted around it are a nature-lover's dream.

Of all the islands, St John is probably the most unspoiled, thanks to the contribution of one of the world's best known philanthropists, Laurence Rockefeller. Had it not been for Rockefeller's gift of money and his desire to preserve beautiful St John, the landscape would probably look more commercial, much like the other Virgin Islands.

Safety Tips
Crime Information. Most visitors to the Caribbean have a relatively safe trip. However, thievery, purse snatching, and pick pocketing do happen, particularly in cities and at beaches. There has also been an increase in violent crimes, such as rape and assault against tourists. In some places, U.S. passports and identity documents are especially attractive to thieves. Robbery of yachts is a problem in some marinas. Here are some precautions to keep in mind: -- Safety begins when you pack. Leave expensive jewelry, unnecessary credit cards, and anything you would hate to lose at home. -- Use a concealed money pouch or belt for passports, cash, and other valuables. -- To facilitate replacing a lost or stolen passport, carry two extra passport photos and a photocopy of your passport information page and other identity documents with you in a separate place from those items. -- Do not take valuables to the beach. When possible, use the hotel safe when you go to the beach or into town. -- When you enter a marina, register with the local government authorities.
