More Info: Toadal Adventure is a Belizean based company specializing in adventure tours. We cater to travelers who want an active role in seeing Belize. With us, you will be "doing " Belize, not just seeing it. Our adventures take you to some of the most beautiful rainforests, rivers and reefs in the country.
Belize is a kayakers paradise with her numerous off shore islands sitting in a calm Caribbean sea along the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. Rivers cris cross the country, coursing through wild jungle . Belize is known as "mother nature's best kept secret". Her landscape will take you from rain forest to Savannah to pine forest to sandy beaches all in the tiny area of 8,876 sq. miles. More than one fifth of Belize's total land is set aside as Nature Reserve. Although rich in natural history, this is a small country not over run with tourism. You can still find deserted islands and hike the forest in area's where you will see no other humans, only animals.
Belize is a small nation in Central America bordered on the east by the Caribbean sea, on the north by Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, and on the west and south by Guatemala. Belize is a peaceful nation under British common law and English is the official language of the country. The motto in Belize seems to be "why hurry?". When traveling to Belize, you can expect the unexpected. If you have a sense of adventure and "go with the flow" attitude you will bring home many great stories to share with friends.
The Belize Barrier Reef and inner cayes are home to a diverse grouping of hard and soft corals. Amongst these corals live over 350 different species of tropical fish. You snorkel amongst tangs, parrot fish, angel fish, rays and often harmless nurse sharks while swimming in bath warm water. If you look closely, you may spot brightly colored tunicates, fire worms or sea horses dancing in the mangrove roots.
Inland Belize brings you into the rainforest. The Belizean rainforest is home to many species of wildlife. Birders will find themselves surrounded by over 500 species of birds. Howler monkeys are a frequent sighting along the many rivers. The Jaguar is the largest cat found in the Belizean jungle.
A mosaic of people call Belize home, including Creole, Maya, Garifuna, Mestizo, Chinese, and Indian. The Maya date back over 2000 years in Belize. Their ancient temples and cities can be seen decorating the countryside - some as excavated, restored sites and others as mounds lost to the jungle.
Belize offers diversity few countries can claim: Ancient Maya ruins, dense rainforest, pine forest in the hills, colossal cave systems, Caribbean beaches and the barrier reef. Your first trip to Belize may not be your last.
Being a Belizean company, Toadal Adventure intimately knows the country. We live here, we don't just run tours here. We have explored Belize at lengths and found what we believe are some of the highlights to share with our travelers.
Toadal Adventure is a family run business and we give each of our guests individual attention. We are not a large company trying to do everything, go everywhere and please everyone. We do a few things and we do them well. Our energy is focused on Belize, a handful of adventures and most of all, on pleasing the guests who decide that a Toadal Adventure trip is for them.
We have been in the Belizean tourism business for over 15 years. Toadal Adventure, started in 1998, quickly became Southern Belize's premier adventure tour operator. Nominated in 2000 for Tour Operator of the year in Belize and receiver of the National Tourism Award for Tour Guide of the year.
About our Guides: Toadal Adventures are led by guides personally picked and trained by us to meet our exacting standards. They have grown up on the sea, fishing with their fathers from a young age. They know these areas like the back of their hand. When they are showing you around Belize, they are sharing part of their life with you. Toadal guides are certified in first aid and licensed by the Belize Tourism Board. Our paddle guides are trained in sea kayaking techniques, and in addition to the required guide certification courses, our guides have received additional training in natural history, so your trip will be a learning experience as well as an adventure. You can relax, and enjoy the surroundings that Belize has to offer.
About our Trips: On a Toadal Adventure most of your time will be spent enjoying the great natural wonders of Belize. Hiking, kayaking, sleeping out under the stars, eating from the bounty of the sea - this is the ultimate way to be one with nature.
At Toadal Adventure, eco-tourism, not mass tourism, is our specialty. Our groups are kept small with a maximum of 10 people. This gives you the opportunity to make new friends and see the wild side of Belize without feeling like you are back in the city.
Most of our nights will be spent camping. We use quality North Face tents and high density foam mats with sheets for bedding.
When we stay in hotels, we use small hotels - clean, comfortable, but nothing fancy. We feel this will give you a better experience of Belizean culture and hospitality.
Ahh...glorious food! While kayaking on the cayes you will enjoy freshly caught seafood meals, prepared fisherman style. Fresh tropical fruits, handmade tortillas, and of course the Belizean specialty of rice and beans! When in towns and villages, we eat either with local families or at small eateries that serve delicious regional cuisine.
Nearby Attractions: Where we go: Toadal Adventure will take you to see some of Belize's highlights including the colorful barrier reef, lush rainforest, ancient Maya ruins, small traditional Maya villages.
Placencia Village is the jumping off point for all of our trips and where Toadal Adventure is based. Placencia is located in Southern Belize on a narrow 13 mile long peninsula bordered by the Caribbean sea. Placencia claims mainland Belize's best beaches. A small village where fishing meets tourism as the local source of income, Placencia feels undiscovered and remains unspoiled by too many tourists.
A narrow sidewalk runs down the center of the village and is bordered by houses, small hotels and restaurants. It's a great place to unwind and get into "Belize Time".
Red Bank Village is west of Placencia in the foothills. This village is inhabited by Maya people who still live a traditional lifestyle of subsistence farming. This village is famous for the Scarlet Macaws who come annually to feed for three months of the year, although very few people ever visit Red Bank. Land in Red Bank was recently set aside to protect the endangered Macaws. By bringing tourism into the area we are helping to protect and conserve these brilliant birds.
The Swasey Branch of the Monkey River stretches from Cockscomb Basin through Red Bank where it meets the sea. This is an area of dense jungle and wildlife. The river is named for the Black Howler Monkeys which inhabit the area.
Monkey River village is a small village consisting of a few families who fish and are involved in tourism.
Moving west, we enter the Cayo area of Belize. This region of Belize is the breadbasket of the country with lots of farming and cattle ranching. It is also home to some fantastic jungle lodges, Maya ruins, and caves. This area is much more highly populated than our other destinations and our tours here will feel more mainstream.
Crossing over into Guatemala we visit Tikal. You will notice an immediate change of culture across the border. Spanish is the local language in Guatemala. The site of Tikal is not only spectacular for it's ruins, but for the jungle surrounding them. Spider monkeys, Coatimundi, birds of all sorts are frequent sightings walking the trails in the park.
Toadal Adventure offers 3 itineraries that can be done individually or combined as 2 or 3 for a more extensive journey. We can also customize an itinerary to fit your desires.
Sea Kayak Island Odyssey - 6 days/5 nights Four days filled with sea kayaking between idyllic palm dotted islands glistening in a warm, clear Caribbean sea. Snorkel amidst colorful tropical fish swimming through stunning coral formations. Relax in a hammock slung under a coconut palm. A great mix of paddling, snorkeling and relaxing along the longest barrier reef in the western hemisphere. Sea kayaking, a fast growing favorite, is the ultimate way to be one with nature.
Jungle River Journey - 4 days/ 3 nights Journey into the picturesque Maya village of Red Bank, nestled in the foothills of the Maya Mountains of Southern Belize. Hike the rainforest, swim in a cooling jungle river and share in the rich culture of the Maya. January - March Red Bank is home to flocks of Scarlet Macaws. Seeing these large parrots in the wild feels like being in a nature film. The following days paddle into the depths of the jungle along Monkey River. Gliding through the forest we search out crocodiles, birds and the howler monkeys the river is named for.
Maya Cave Expedition - 4 days/ 3 nights Traveling into western Belize and Guatemala you'll feel transported back in time as we visit the spectacular Maya site of Tikal.
