More Info:
Grenada is glorious to visit at any time of the year: The last hurricane was in 1955.

Here you will experience the real Grenada of old with a few fishing boats bobbing on the water, fishermen eager to fish for your supper and eight staff eager to please. The tiny restaurant/bar sits but a few feet away from the shore serving traditional Grenadian, full English or continental breakfast, light lunches, freshly caught supper and drinks all day .Sip a sundown rum punch at the water's edge whilst watching the egrets fly home to roost on the island off-shore.

The Beach Houses are stylishly simple set amongst the palms and brilliant bougainvillaea. The bedrooms open onto the verandahs that lead straight into the garden which runs down to the calm warm sea. Pristine walk-in mosquito nets overhang the Grenadian mahogany beds, wooden louvres let in the cooling breeze while the sound of the sea lulls you to sleep ...in peace ...to dream. Grenada is one of the few islands of the Caribbean which remains relatively unspoilt. St.Georges, the colourful capital is one of the prettiest in the Caribbean. Petit Bacaye is 20 minutes from St. Georges and Grand Anse Beach and 25 minutes from the airport.

Petit Bacaye Cottage Hotel has a thatched beach bar and restaurant serving freshly prepared breakfast, light lunches and delicious evening meals.

- Three 1 bedroom thatched beach houses.
- One 2 bedroom thatched beach house with kitchen.
- One Honeymoon thatched beach house
- One Plantation house suite
- All with hot water shower rooms.
- And large shaded verandahs.
- All with sea view.
- Everything within 50 metres of the sea!

Weddings at Petit Bacaye. Petit Bacaye is a sensational, romantic location for small weddings. We assist with all legal requirements and provide whatever the bride and groom wish from just a simple ceremony with flowers to a wedding bower of palm leaves and flowers plus wedding breakfast with a steel band.

The site is manned 24 hours. The bar/restaurant closes at the end of the evening and re-opens for breakfast from 7.30 am. A member of the staff sleeps in the staff quarters to the rear of the beach houses. He has a key to access the telephone in the bar.

The beach bar/restaurant is 20 metres towards the sea from the beach houses. Breakfast, snacks during the day, dinner and drinks are served. The dinner menu includes fresh fish, pork, chicken and vegetarian dishes. A member of staff will check your dinner requirements in the morning.

Fishermen bring their catch onto the beach daily. Please note the lobster season is 1st Sept to 30th April.

For the truly romantic, dinner can be served at the water's edge. Price for Full English Breakfast is $ 25; Continental $ 17.5. For the evening meal, starters from $ 10, main course from $30 (prices are in E.C. dollars)

Hot News For Cool Bodies
A soothing, relaxing massage is now available at Petit Bacaye Cottage Hotel. Just a coconut's throw from your room is *'De Soul Case'. Here on a private, shady wooden verandah, you can enjoy a sensational coconut and nutmeg oil massage whilst lying dreaming amidst misty muslins, the sense of tropical flowers and gentle rustle of the banana trees. After dark enjoy a memorable massage by candle light...

* De Soul Case is the Grenadian phrase for human body.

Cost of 45 minute massage is $60EC

The beach at Petit Bacaye is totally safe, the water warm. Snorkelling towards the reef, is fun. There is another lovely sandy beach a short walk along a track through the trees on the left side of the bay. All beaches in Grenada are public. We share our beach with the fishermen and a few children from the village. There are no beach vendors.

Location
Petit Bacaye is on the south-eastern side of the island in an area known as St. David's. The capital, St. George's is 20 minutes away, the airport 25 minutes.

Clothes
Very casual. Shorts, T-shirts, sarongs. Lightweight jersey for evenings in winter months. No topless or nude sun bathing. No bathing costumes for walking around town. Long sleeved lightweight tops and trousers for the evening. Old pair of canvas shoes for walking around the bay to the island.

Health
No vaccinations needed. Mains water is drinkable. The main hospital and the private hospital are in St. George's.

Voltage
220/240 volts same as in U.K. with square pin plugs.

Security
Grenada is one of the safest of the Caribbean islands. Please help to keep it that way by leaving your valuables at home. It is simple beach living at Petit Bacaye.

Telephone
Telephone calls within the island are free. Long distance calls can be made by credit card. We are unable to put them on the bill. Overseas calls from mobile phones do not work.

Driving
On the left…! If you hire a car should be a four-wheel drive jeep. We use Marcus Gabriel (gabriel @ hotmail.com) and 'Y & R Car Rentals ( y&r@caribsurf.com). When booking mention you are staying at Petit Bacaye Cottage Hotel. Budget £200 per week. We recommend that on your first visit you should take a taxi to the hotel and ask the hire company to deliver your vehicle to the hotel when you want it. Be sure to take your driving licence with you as you will need to show this in order to purchase a short term Grenadian driving licence E.C. $30 ($12 U.S.). Taxis (which we can arrange) from the airport to Petit Bacaye cost around E.C. $60 ($23 US).

Public Transport
Lots of mini buses, very cheap…very fast. From the top of the drive.

Petit Bacaye Cottage Hotel is privately owned by Peter Pilbrow and Julia Montgomery, who also owns The Onion Store, a similar hideaway near the New Forest, in Southern Hampshire.

Grenada the southernmost of the Windward Islands, lies 100 miles north of Venezuela and is the largest island (21 x 12 miles) of a three-island nation - Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique (not to be confused with Martinique). This now politically stable member of the British Commonwealth has a population of just under 100,000 and is happily situated outside the usual hurricane belt. The last major hurricane damage was sustained in 1955.

A stunningly beautiful, verdant island with incredibly varied countryside, Grenada is a wonderful place to explore. Travel from the dry land in the south, to the fantastic white sweep of sand of the famous Grande Anse beach, to the mountainous centre rising to 2700 feet, to the lush rain forest, hidden waterfalls and onto the wild waters of Bathway beach in the north.

The "Spice island", Grenada is still sleepy, not a place for the dedicated party goer! More spices are produced here per square mile than any other place in the world. The air is perfumed with the soft scent of nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon.

The people are friendly, full of smiles and a very handsome race. Their capital, St. George's is the prettiest in the whole Caribbean with precipitous, narrow streets and pastel coloured houses with wrought iron balconies topped by red tiled roofs.

Climate
Average temperature - winter 82F degrees and in summer 86F degrees. Lovely to visit year round.

The hills in the centre of the island receive 160 inches of rain a year. The 'wet' season officially runs from the middle of June to November. It is probably fairly accurate to say that it rains at some time in 10 days out of 30 during the 'dry' season and 20 days out of 30 during the 'wet'. Rain usually comes in short sharp bursts - lovely and cooling - often at night. Because of the constant tradewinds there is little humidity.

Currency
EC (Eastern Caribbean) dollars and American Dollars. The $EC ( EC dollar) is fixed to the US dollar at 2.7 $EC to 1 $US (approximately $4.0 EC to the pound). Be sure to establish whether the price being quoted is in $EC or $US. Credit cards are widely accepted.

Banking Hours 8am to 3pm Monday to Thursday, 8am to 5pm Friday. Cash machines dispensing local currency are available outside some banks. There is a cash dispenser at the airport and another on the Carenage in St. George's.

Airport - 'Port Salines'
Port Salines International Airport on the south-western point of the island can handle the largest commercial jets for both day and night landings.
