Site Information:
The Lodge

Surrounded by sea, mountains and rainforest The Lodge, an old Plantation or ‘Great' house, was built in the late 1800s and is set in 2½ acres of grounds. High above sea level, The Lodge is built on the four compass points, in classic Caribbean style, to benefit from the cooling breezes of the Trade Winds.

More Info:
The Lodge was remodeled in the 1920s to include a veranda, from where a panoramic view of the South West coast of Grenada and the historic harbor town of St George’s (said to be the prettiest town in the Caribbean) is set off by the most fantastic sunsets.

Only the third owners in almost 100 years, we have enhanced the elegance of The Lodge by the addition of both a 25 meter (non-chemical) swimming pool with secluded sun deck and a garden terrace. From the Garden Terrace you can watch a perfect sunrise, sunset and the most fabulous full moons, as well as looking out to the mountains and rainforest in the East.

At The Lodge we offer two double rooms with full board and accommodation. After a leisurely buffet breakfast and lunch, in the evenings Mark and Mary, both Vegetarians/Vegans for over 30 years, invite you to join them for 'Sundowners' on the Veranda. Then follows a three course dinner in the formal setting of their ‘six sided’ dining room, with panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, underneath its canopy of stars, and across to the twinkling lights of St. George’s.
At The Lodge we are working towards sustainable tourism by:

Fruits and Vegetables:

All our fresh foods are seasonal, organic and locally grown. We are in process of establishing our own organic fruit and vegetable gardens.

Household Policy:

We import environmentally friendly floor, toilet, and washing powders/cleaners, recycled paper products together with any organic ‘dry’ foods that can not be found locally. We share our purchasing power with several other families and feel that the environmental impact of the transportation is out weighed by the benefits to both the local environment and our guests.

Water:

The collection of rain water, from our roof, is filtered via German technology into a 40,000 gallon holding tank. This water is further filtered when pumped, on demand, into the house. It is filtered a third time for drinking and cooking purposes.

Swimming Pool:

Our 25 meter pool is filled with rainwater and the pH balance, cleanliness and safety of the water are maintained by an electrolytic/saline system. Which means that the water is a mild saline solution (0.3%-0.5%) ensuring that there are no damaging chemicals to harm the environment or you!

Waste Water:

All our toilets have a ‘half flush’ facility to minimise the use of clean water.

We grade waste water into ‘grey water’ (from showers, sinks and washing machines) and ‘black water’ (from toilets and kitchen sinks).

Grey water: is used to water the fruit trees, vegetables and garden

Black water: is piped to a triple chamber septic tank system. The ‘liquor’ from this process is fine gravel filtered prior to use in the garden and the ‘solid’ is used as manure.

To maintain this system we ask all our guests to put solid waste materials (such as tampons, etc.) in the bags provided for separate disposal and not flush them down the toilet.

Energy:

Hot water at The Lodge is provided by solar energy

Our cooking is done with propane gas, which is the best available option locally at present.

Lighting is via the local grid but our goal is to go ‘off grid’ within 5 years or when a better storage medium than batteries is developed.

Nearby Attractions:
Grenada is full of history but where it differs from the other small Caribbean islands is that not only is there ‘sun, sea and sand’ there are also mountains, waterfalls and rainforest. Grenada has all the usual water sports with some of the best scuba diving in the Caribbean. And when you’ve ‘had enough nature’ there is the historic Georgian town of St. George’s, the Plantation Houses, Forts, some of the oldest rum factories in the world to name but a few of our ‘attractions’.

Amenities:
Rates also include free airport transfer on arrival and departure and a free laundry service for stays of more than one week.

The Dragon Room:

- Emperor size four poster bed
- En-suite shower room with toilet and double wash basins
- Stunning views to the North, South and West

- 40+ channel cable TV
- Large private balcony - West facing
