More Info: Legendary port for Blackbeard the pirate, St. Thomas historians trace the Skytsborg Tower of 1679 through history. Today, couples come to the Tower's romantic setting for wedding vows, while at other times, children enjoy climbing the tower and imagining themselves on pirate quests. See more about the history & lore of Blackbeard and historic St. Thomas places including Haagensen House and Villa Notman.
You'll find other treasures here too. Your views of the ships passing in the harbor, and night lights in the town of Charlotte Amalie are spectacular. The Inn at Blackbeard's Castle Restaurant offers sumptuous selections of "New World" cuisine.
Relax under the skillful hands of our masseuse or invigorate on a self-guided historical walking tour beginning at the tower.
The Inn at Blackbeard's Castle and Hotel 1829 share a kindred spirit as two great inns or small hotels on the island of St. Thomas, USVI. Your hosts, the Ball family and partner Gerhard Hofmann share a deep appreciation for traditions, service, and craftsmanship coupled with enjoyment derived from guests from around the world. Both the inn and the hotel offer a romantic and memorable Caribbean stay in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
Nearby Attractions: Town treasure: Shopping for local arts, duty free jewelry and gems among other things, awaits you down the hillside. You could walk to Charlotte Amalie's ferry to St. John, for a day trip to visit the lush greenery of the national park or snorkel the underwater park. Colorful historic sites dot the town and the pamphlet for the self-guided walking tour is available at the inn. Influences from the Danish as well as French, Spanish and Dutch island heritage can be found everywhere.
Amenities: Casual elegance abounds at the inn with four poster beds, crown moldings, private baths, cable television, ceiling fans and air conditioning. The Inn at Blackbeard's Castle is a small hotel with an intimate ambiance. Quiet guest rooms are finished with individual detail. Comfort and conveniences are remarkably intertwined with this unique hotel's heritage. There are a variety of accommodation choices to suit your vacation travel preferences. Two junior suites are adjacent to the tower and pool. There are six balcony suites located on the west side of the property on two levels, all of which overlook the Island View pool and beyond to the charming town and harbor. Four garden rooms are at ground level in Villa Notman -another building on the premises with distinctive historical character. Most rooms and suites have a king sized bed; one junior suite has two queen sized beds.
Romantic treasure: The rooms and suites, with their individual charm are perfect for honeymoons, romantic getaways, and second honeymoons. Being on the hillside, your views of Charlotte Amalie and the Caribbean Sea by starlight adds to the romantic atmosphere.
Family treasure: Most rooms and suites are spacious enough to accommodate a rollaway bed for children. Blackbeard's Castle launches imagination into the days of pirates and tall ships in the harbor. Continue the swashbuckler fantasy at the cannons and pirate statues, and then on to Fort Christian.
Start your day with our complimentary continental breakfast buffet. See our Blackbeard's Castle Dining page for more about the breakfast buffet and a tantalizing menu from our great restaurant. For the ultimate intimate meal, enjoy room service!
New World Cuisine awaits you at the Inn at Blackbeard's Castle Restaurant. In addition to the wide variety of entrees offered on our evening menu, our Executive Chef creates nightly specials that tempt your palate. Fresh seafood, steaks, duck and chicken top the menu of entrees. The dining room is open from 6pm to 9:30pm; now open Monday through Saturday. Room service is available during restaurant hours.

Caribbean Travel Tip Cuts and Scrapes Be sure to pack an effective topical antibiotic cream. The smallest scratch or insect bite can quickly become infected. Try "Bactriban" or "Polysporin". To prevent ringworm, the most effective product is "Nizoral" - sold over the counter as an anti-dandruff shampoo.
