More Info: Hopetown is a quaint, unhurried, peaceful little settlement on Elbow Cay (pronounced "Key"). Hopetown is approximately 190 miles east of Palm Beach, Florida and about 90 miles from Nassau, Bahamas. Many of its pretty New England style houses date back to its founding in the 1780’s, and most of its current inhabitants can trace their descent from the original Loyalist families who came here at the time of the American Revolution.
The town offers grocery stores, a liquor store, shops, a historical museum, churches, a library, restaurants, a post office, a drug store, telephone service to the US, a dive shop, a straw shop, and charter fishing boats.
Abaco is a fisherman's paradise; Marlin, Sailfish, Grouper, Yellowtail and Bahama Lobster are readily caught with the assistance of the qualified charter captains of Hopetown. A 17' Boston Whaler or 18' Privateer are available for rent from a local marina.
Nearby Attractions: The beautiful warmth of the subtropical sun keeps the temperatures in the 70’s most of the year and in the 80’s during the summer. The balmy climate provides wonderful opportunities for swimming, sailing, snorkeling, fishing, diving, beachcombing, and shell hunting.
Amenities: Bahama Breeze is in the settlement of White Sound, about a ½ hour walk by road from Hopetown proper, or a ten-minute boat ride on the bay. The bay is a short walk from the house.
Bahama Breeze is situated on an 18-foot bluff above a white sandy beach and crystal blue water of the Atlantic Ocean. A private stairway allows easy access to the beach. From the deck of the house, you can watch the sunrise out of the beautiful tropical sea! Swim, surf, or windsurf right in front of the house.
The house is designed for four (4) people. It has a large central living, dining, and kitchen area, and all rooms are equipped with air conditioning and overhead fans for maximum comfort. There are two full baths, each with showers, and each of the 2 bedrooms are privately accessible via their own doors onto the large, ocean-facing deck. You can view some beautiful sunsets from the kitchen deck. There is a separate tower house that accommodates 2 extra people. The kitchen, with a refrigerator/freezer combination, gas stove, microwave, toaster, Mr. Coffee, and ample utensils is ready to do as much or as little cooking as desired. The Island has several lovely restaurants. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and the second bedroom has twin beds. All linens are supplied including beach towels.

Caribbean Travel Tip Safety Tips Crime Information. Most visitors to the Caribbean have a relatively safe trip. However, thievery, purse snatching, and pick pocketing do happen, particularly in cities and at beaches. There has also been an increase in violent crimes, such as rape and assault against tourists. In some places, U.S. passports and identity documents are especially attractive to thieves. Robbery of yachts is a problem in some marinas.
Here are some precautions to keep in mind:
-- Safety begins when you pack. Leave expensive jewelry, unnecessary credit cards, and anything you would hate to lose at home.
-- Use a concealed money pouch or belt for passports, cash, and other valuables.
-- To facilitate replacing a lost or stolen passport, carry two extra passport photos and a photocopy of your passport information page and other identity documents with you in a separate place from those items.
-- Do not take valuables to the beach. When possible, use the hotel safe when you go to the beach or into town.
-- When you enter a marina, register with the local government authorities.
