Bahama Sunset
Bahama Sunset is a romantic island retreat set on rugged cliffs overlooking the warm, peaceful waters of the Caribbean Ocean.
|
More Info: Bahama Sunset is a unique waterfront vacation rental, providing comfortable and private accommodation in the Bahamas. At Bahama Sunset you will have a birds eye view of the crystalline blue-green waters from every window- you can't find a better lodging experience in the Bahamas. Walk down the stone cut steps and find excellent snorkeling, diving and sunning in your own private lagoon. Secluded pink and white powdery beaches are just minutes away. Each night you can relax, watching stunning sunsets glide into the ocean from the wrap-around deck that hangs over the majestic cliffs.
Bahama Sunset is constructed of solid Georgia pine and features tile floors, timber beamed vaulted ceilings and handmade cabinetry. Bahama Sunset comes complete with sheets and towels, fully equipped kitchen with microwave, stove, oven, toaster oven, refrigerator, etc. There are laundry facilities one mile away in Gregory Town. Groceries are available in Gregory Town and Governors Harbour.
Bahama Sunset is situated one mile south of Gregory Town, a farming/fishing village on the west coast of Eleuthera, home of beautiful beaches, spectacular marine life, and an environment conducive to hours of quiet contemplation. Island nightlife includes an orchestra of crickets, frogs, egrets- and the rhythm of the ocean dancing in the starlit lagoon.
Nearby Attractions: Eleuthera is located 60 miles east of Nassau. The island is best known for: great diving, secluded pink and white powdery beaches, unusual rock formations, caving, green forests, rolling hills and rich, red soil in the north (excellent for growing sweet pineapples, mangoes and tomatoes.)
The stormy Atlantic side and the quiet Caribbean side of Eleuthera's water ranges from soft cobalt to crystal clear electric blue-green. The waters are filled with colorful tropical fish and numerous game fish. "Devils Backbone" is a shallow reef with amazingly colorful diving and snorkeling. There are several interesting ship wrecks and a train wreck (yes, a train wreck) dive site nearby. At the island's breathtaking Glass Window Bridge, near Gregory Town, aquatic wonders are mirrored in the deep blue sea of the Atlantic continental shelf.
One of the Eleuthera pastimes is looking for the Green Flash, a natural tropical phenomenon that happens, rarely, at sunset on cloudless days. You have to watch closely just after the sun has disappeared beneath the sea. The Green Flash is a brilliant band of green light that flashes vibrantly across the horizon.
Bat cave, Preachers Cave (the home of the original settlers of Eleuthera), inland blue holes, caverns and caves with small secluded beaches (depending on the tides) are scattered throughout the island and awaiting your discovery. Surfers Beach is located immediately east of Bahama Sunset, on the Atlantic side, and is known for its world-class surfing. Gaulding Cay Beach, located north of Gregory Town and The Rainbow Beach, south of Gregory Town, as well as hundreds of other beaches are hidden all around the island. You will often have the beaches all to yourself.
Sweetings Pond, located immediately south of Bahama Sunset and in close proximity to the Bat Cave, is an inland brackish lake with all types of shellfish and octopus. Legends speak of the enormous octopus that inhabit the lake. There are also many salt ponds where locals dry salt from the salt water.
Gregory Town Set atop a cliff, this is the official home of the sweet, juicy Bahamian pineapple. To celebrate its pineapple history, Gregory Town holds a yearly pineapple festival in June where one can tour pineapple farms; enjoy indigenous craft displays and pineapple recipe contests. The residents insist that one must sample a glass of the "Gregory Town Special," fine pineapple rum, which is always served with a smile. Shops in Gregory Town include Thompson's Bakery (up the hill on the Queens Highway), Thompson's Grocery (credit cards are not accepted), Island Made Gift Shop and Mr. Bones Wines & Spirits. Several restaurants are located near and in Gregory Town in close proximity to Bahama Sunset.
Amenities: Bahama Sunset comes complete with sheets and towels, fully equipped kitchen with microwave, stove, oven, toaster oven, coffee maker, refrigerator, and A/C in the bedroom, etc. Our housekeeper will do general cleaning (not dishes) and wash linens after you leave. There are laundry facilities a few miles away in Gregory Town. Groceries can be bought in Gregory Town or Governors Harbour. The largest grocery store is in Governors Harbour. As Bahama Sunset is a quiet retreat, there is no phone or TV. We will give you an emergency phone contact number when your reservation is confirmed.
