Abaco Hideaway II
Beautiful sea-front house in Marsh Harbour, Abacos, Bahamas for rent. Sleeps up to twelve people comfortably, made possible because of a unique feature in one of the bedrooms which contains two triple-decker bunk beds.
|
More Info: Waterfront rental at Great Cistern just west of Marsh Harbour in Abaco Island, Bahamas.
Sleeps up to twelve people comfortably made possible because of a unique feature in one of the bedrooms which contains two triple-decker bunk beds. A couch in the living room also makes into a bed for two.
Ideal for two families with children. (See rates for details.)
Enjoy your own private world on this large landscaped property minutes from downtown Marsh Harbour by car and easy access to the cays in your rental boat from private dock.
Located in Great Cistern on a lot with over five hundred feet of frontage on the ocean and your own forty foot dock. Hideaway is located 2.9 miles west of Marsh Harbour by car and 2.2 nautical miles from the harbour by boat. You probably will want to rent a car and you definitely should rent a boat - going to the cays is what Abaco is all about. You may moor your boat at Hideaway's private dock. Gorgeous landscaping adorns the yard with bougainvillea, hibiscus, plumbago and many other varieties creating a riot of color most of the year. As you drive through the gates, look sharply between the young coconut palms lining the driveway and you may see a Bahama woodstar or Cuban emerald humming bird hovering over the flowers. Imagine yourself sitting on the covered porch, drink in hand, looking out at Man-o'-war, Scotland and Great Guana cays (pronounced "key") as sailboats drift by and tropic birds ply the trade winds.
Nearby Attractions: Great Guana Cay - Visit Nipper's Restaurant on the beach. Pig roast on Sunday and great drinks every day. Salt water pool and outdoor bar. They will meet you in a golf cart and take you to and from the restaurant. You can swim or snorkel on their beautiful beach.
Hope Town - Elbow Cay. A must! Many camera moments. Candy stripped lighthouse. Great shopping. Restaurants on the water. A feeling of New England as you view the pastel colored salt-box houses. The town dates from the 18th century.
Green Turtle Cay -Very old settlement with quaint shops and restaurants.
Treasure Cay - Excellent marina and fine dining. National Geographic rates the beach as one of the twelve best in the world.
Lubber's Quarters - This is also a cay and is famous for one thing, a restaurant called Cracker P's. Their atmosphere and cooking is becoming legendary.
Man-o'-war Cay - Famous for its wooden boat builders active well into the last century. Some of these boats are still in service. Now they build fiberglass boats. Go to the boat yards and watch the construction or shop at Albury's Sail Shop for unusual buys. This is another very quaint harbour and is the owner's favorite.
All of the above mentioned cays have beautiful, pristine beaches protected by an outer reef. Bring your gear for great snorkeling or diving.
Fishing - Ask Rich's where to go. You can catch grouper, snapper, blue or yellow fin tuna, dolphin and many other varieties. You may also dive for lobster and conch, in season. The clear water is perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling. You can do it on your own or hire a guide. (Even if you don't rent a boat, you will see lots of interesting fish and coral right in front of the house.) Bone fishing with flies, a serious sport here, is available. You are advised to hire a local guide.
By car There are numerous fine restaurants and bars with live local entertainment along the waterfront in downtown Marsh Harbour. These include Sapodilly's, Mangoes, The Jib Room, Wally's, The Bistro and the restaurant at Boat Harbour. The dress code is non-existent.
There are also many good shops such as Iggy-Biggy, Sunset Straw & Souvenir, Abaco Gold, Solomon's Mines and Java Coffee Shop (where you can also get a good cup of coffee). You will find a great variety of items from local art to jewelry to perfume to T-shirts and everything in-between.
There are liquor stores and several well-stocked super markets which can supply your needs. There are also local bakeries with bread to die for.
If you are an avid birder or would just like to see our beautiful backwaters and learn about nature, visit Abaco Outback for a safe and civilized safari by kayak.
Last but not least, you should visit Little Harbour. It is an artists' colony and home to internationally known sculptor and bronze artist, Pete Johnson. Visit the gallery and foundry and by all means have a few drinks at Pete's Pub. Many famous people visit this bar and locals make an art out of pretending to ignore them. Travel south on the Queen's Highway (aka the only highway) and turn left at the well-marked road to Cherokee. Then left again at the small sign to Little Harbour. Caution! Drive slow - it is a rough dirt road from this point on.
Amenities: This is a new home with three air-conditioned bedrooms, two full baths plus outdoor hot and cold shower, fully equipped modern kitchen, private dock, upper and lower decks for sun bathing and a long covered porch facing ocean for just chilling out. This beautiful new home is perched high on a cliff, right on the ocean, with a spectacular view of the Sea of Abaco.
