Balenbouche Estate is a heritage site and working organic farm as well as a guesthouse. Discover the rich history of this 18th century sugar plantation and ancient Amerindian site, stroll along secluded beaches, pick exotic fruit from the trees, relax in your own charming one or two bedroom caribbean villa, and enjoy the warm hospitality of your hosts, who have made Balenbouche their home and life's work for the past 20 years. Balenbouche Estate also hosts special events and projects such as weddings, the Annual St. Lucia Jazz Festival, archeological field schools, cultural exchanges, yoga and artist retreats. Many visitors come to Balenbouche Estate simply to relax, enjoy the luxury of beeing surrounded by acres of unspoiled natural beauty, and to spend time with family and friends. However, there is also much to see and do on site and in the area. Throughout the year, Balenbouche hosts activities and special events, including retreats, workshops, and performances. Nearby activities include hiking (rainforest trails and waterfalls are just a few minutes drive away), historical and archeological sights, local villages and restaurants, and local art and craft. The towns of Vieux Fort and Soufriere (20 and 30 minutes drive) offer wind surfing, kite surfing, scuba diving, shopping, restaurants, nightlife, and many other attractions and activities.

Each villa has its own distinct character, created by fusing the best elements of traditional West Indian architecture with modern convenience and a love for "outdoor living." Our two bedroom villas each offer 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen and living room/veranda. Our one bedroom villas offer private bathrooms and verandas. Each bed is equipped with a mosquito net, and a standing fans. Double and single room are also available in one of the villas and in the antique-furnished Estate house.Laundry facilities, maid service, and internet access are at your disposal. Our restaurant offers delicious daily specials and dinner buffets. Children are welcome and free of charge under 6 years old, children under 12 pay half price.

Safety Tips
Crime Information. Most visitors to the Caribbean have a relatively safe trip. However, thievery, purse snatching, and pick pocketing do happen, particularly in cities and at beaches. There has also been an increase in violent crimes, such as rape and assault against tourists. In some places, U.S. passports and identity documents are especially attractive to thieves. Robbery of yachts is a problem in some marinas.
Here are some precautions to keep in mind:
-- Safety begins when you pack. Leave expensive jewelry, unnecessary credit cards, and anything you would hate to lose at home.
-- Use a concealed money pouch or belt for passports, cash, and other valuables.
-- To facilitate replacing a lost or stolen passport, carry two extra passport photos and a photocopy of your passport information page and other identity documents with you in a separate place from those items.
-- Do not take valuables to the beach. When possible, use the hotel safe when you go to the beach or into town.
-- When you enter a marina, register with the local government authorities.
