Birdies Nest at Courland Bay, Tobago
Comfortable 2 bed/2 bathroom West Indian home sitting on a Caribbean beach perfect for Leatherback Turtle observation and family vacations
|
More Info: Giant Leatherback Turtles, a mile long Caribbean beach at Courland Bay, a simple, comfortable beach house where families can afford to holiday in Tobago, coconut palms, humming birds and other species and West Indian tropical sunsets all have one thing in common..... it is called BIRDIE'S NEST.
Birdie's nest has a fully fitted kitchen, living and dining room with Cable TV and limited dialout phone. A verandah and sun lounge chairs also supplied. Breakfast is included in the rate. The house sleeps 4 persons.
Originally built as a comfortable West Indian family home it has been converted to a holiday home and beach cottage which accommodates visitors to Tobago's shores.
The house of recent vintage is built of concrete and sits on stilts which allow it a cool, elevated view over the beach across the Caribbean sea. There are 2 large bedrooms with Double beds and 2 bathrooms (one en suite) with Hot and Cold water, Shower/tub and WC.
The Kitchen opens on to the Living room and is outfitted to accommodate 4 guests, with a modern gas range, large fridge, microwave, coffee percolator, and all cooking equipment.
The Living room itself leads on to the open air verandah which wraps around the front of the house and faces the sea.... making it so very easy to relax, be at home AND sunbathe in comfort and privacy!
In the evening when the sun sets, it seems to set for you only - leaving you many fabulous memories of magnificent skies the colour of fire. Or the other memories which rival them - of the stunning brilliance of the full moon on a Caribbean tropical night.
The sounds of nighttime will surround you, subdued chirps and whistles and myriad other calls while in the background waves break and recede on the shoreline.
And by day - the inimitable coconut palms, majestic, humming birds and other species darting amidst mango trees, coconut palms and banana plants.
Nearby Attractions: Tucked away just a stone's throw off the sandy Caribbean shoreline visitors who stay at Birdie's Nest, Tobago have an unmatched opportunity to see Giant Leatherback Turtles which almost come to their doorstep during the annual turtle nesting season (April to September). Great Courland Bay is one of a handful of beaches in the world where these endangered creatures return every year to lay their eggs. It is an unforgettable, eerily prehistoric sight - usually at the dark of night - when silently the mother to be emerges from the sea heaving her now-heavy torso across the sand to dig a nest and lay her cache of over 50 soft white eggs, then, covering and camouflaging the nest area, she heaves her way back into the waiting sea. It is a ritual which has been occuring for millenia and which can happen virtually at your doorstep at Birdie's Nest.
Even if you do not witness this incredible event, there is always the pleasure of a golden sandy beach and sparkling blue waters of the Caribbean Sea lapping at your feet - this is the beautiful Great Courland Bay home of the Turtle Beach Resort hotel and two of Tobago's best known small tourist villages - Black Rock and Plymouth with their local Creole restaurants and 'rum shops' where you can hear the sweet sounds of the steel pan and reggae music or meet some of the village folk and join in with fishermen who still cast their nets daily in the ritual called 'pulling the seine'.
